Flyers interested in Forsberg comeback

OK, it's a longshot -- let's say 80/20 -- that Peter Forsberg will return to the Flyers. But it's not as long as it was yesterday and, by the time the Flyers find out the medical status of Danny Briere on Thursday, the odds could become closer to 50/50. Briere will have exploratory surgery Thursday to find out why he is still having so much groin pain. The Flyers are hoping it's just scar tissue, in which case the center should be able to return in two weeks. But if it is a severe groin tear that will require an adductor release -- an injury Mike Richards suffered two years ago -- Briere could be out for six weeks. Or longer. That means he wouldn't be back until March, and there are no guarantees he would be effective if he returned this season.

My guess is that if Peter does come back, it will be with the Avs

Not only a good guess LGP but a pretty safe bet. As far as the Flyers being interested in Forsberg's comeback, I think they are the only ones on FanNation of this frame of mind, so can they please stop posting these mundane and boring media bites again this year?

January 22, 2009  09:48 AM ET

So basically this article was about Briere's injury and his playing status and almost nothing to do with Forsberg. Everyone read all the same stuff about Peter last season. He's a great player, he just cant stay healthy.

January 22, 2009  09:57 AM ET

The Flyers don't have the cap room to get him. The only way it'd work is if Briere was out for the rest of the year so that they wouldn't have to count him against the cap. Peter'll be back in Denver.

wtnelson, thanks for restating the article for everyone...

Flyers response to this article: "We are?"

January 22, 2009  10:36 AM ET

Mats Sundin came back.... so now we need to return to Forsberg.... nice.

January 22, 2009  10:58 AM ET

again with indecisive Swedes?

January 22, 2009  11:09 AM ET

forsberg has never been indecisive.... he has always had the desire to play...... perhaps too much.... health, not desire has always been his issue.... time for the 2 a day forsberg t&rs i guess... do swedes love the spotlight or does the media love to put them in the spotlight????

January 22, 2009  11:12 AM ET

forsberg has always shown a desire to play the game... health, not desire has always been his issue.... time for the 2 a day forsberg t&r's i guess..... do swedes love to be in the spotlight or does the media enjoy putting the swedes in the spotlight???

Not too sure about that, because baring a miracle the Avs aren't making the playoffs. Peter, should he make it back to the NHL at the 11th hour, will want a contender. At least, I would assume. How 'bout, ummm, Pittsburgh?? (not gonna happen... just wishful thinking)

January 22, 2009  11:42 AM ET

you can admit it H&S.... you love the sens....

January 22, 2009  12:53 PM ET

I can only see Forsberg in Denver.
Vancouver maybe 5-8 years ago but, not now. Besides, he has a bum foot that won't ever heal enough to be able to allow him to skate at the level to which he is accustomed.
He should probably retire to save himself more disappointment.

Forsberg to Vancouver.

PLease god no...we have one too many Swedes cycling the puck as it is. If you could turn back the clock and give us a healthy Foppa to centre the then league-leading West Coast Express line with Nazzy and Bert then maybe.

Glitches suck. FN needs new staff...

haha never! Even though I was born, raised and continue to live in ottawa, have never been down with the Kanata Senators....sure they have (HAD SORRY) skill, but they have no heart, and half of the team are ****...and again Kanata, they lost me from the get-go..maybe if the arena wasn't 45 minutes out of town I woulda been a fan. But to me, the whole organization is built on Bryden's lost vision and his lack of respect to the real ottawa...go habs...

No. No. No. No. No. The only way Forsberg comes back to the Flyers is if Holmgren gives his job back to Booby Clarke, and Clarke brain farts and signs him. Forsberg *was* good a few years back, but is far too much a liability. The Risk -vs- Reward is *not* there and any team taking him back would be wasting time and money. First, T&R needs to stop focusing on these types of articles, and second, Forsberg just needs to let it go. Be a coach or commentator or something for Sweden.

Why? the Flyers don't need him
