Rangers can't afford adding Guerin

Where are the Rangers going to get the power forward they so obviously lack and so desperately need in order to be more than a one-and-done playoff team with so comparatively little to spend? You know who would look good on Scott Gomez's right side? Billy Guerin. That's who would look good driving to the net and planting himself in front of the power play. But Guerin, the Islander captain who has a no-move clause and is unlikely to waive it if asked to leave the surrounding area, is in the final year of a contract under which he's earning $4.5M. As such, the Rangers not only don't have space for him now, but unless the GM begins attending to the cap immediately, the Rangers won't have space at the deadline to add the 38-year-old winger whose 14 power-play points (4-10) would lead the Blueshirts and who is a Glen Sather favorite from their years together in Edmonton.

If the Rangers don't have the Cap space, then they ain't going to get anyone now are they? Not unless they can swing a trade that moves a significant amount of salary the other way.

Good luck on finding a taker on a big salary. There are only a few places he could go.

The Rangers near the cap? No way!!! I've never heard this one before

I wonder if the Pens are interested in any decent wingers?
Just wondering...

Actally, Billy would be a nice additional piece to several contending teams. Lots of grit and still has the skill. I'm sure he wouldn't nix a move to a real shot at a cup.

I would not be at all surprised to see Bill back in Jersey before the season's over. Rolston, Holik, Shanahan, so why not Guerin?? It would make me feel even better about wearing my old Guerin jersey

Has been and continues to be their weakest position by far.

The Rangers seem to be in this predicament every year. Who use up all of your cap space right away? It makes no sense? I guess they reap what they sow. Anyways, Hopefully Guerin can get to a contender this year.

January 23, 2009  09:51 AM ET

I don't wish the rangers any well...but why the f wouldn't guerin waive his no trade clause to go to NYR? he's got it too good in LI? the commute is too far? He already bought non refundable disney world tickets for mid to late april?

I'd be surprised if he would not waive his clause to go to NYR.

I'd be ok with that move....depending on the price.

I re-read the article....

ignore comment #11, excpept for the part about not wishing the rangers well.

I knew you wouldn't be rescinding on THAT part!

the rangers need to move prucha and his 1.5 mill in order to try to do anything this year, how bout just waiving him? guerin would be great for the rangers but there r other options out there. bottom line sather needs to get something done or else this team is gonna be second round and out once again

It's a shame, I'm a big fan of prucha, but it seems he may be the odd man out...or Dan Fritsche perhaps?

Be weary of Guerin. He was a dud when San Jose picked him up. And he was playing for a coach and team he claimed he wanted to win with. I say let him stay on the Island and let him watch from the bar at the golf course

January 23, 2009  02:06 PM ET

Rangers don't want Guerin. They need to get rid of one of the big 4. Unfortunately it looks like Rosi. No team would pick up Redden. They should waive Redden, eat half his salary, and trade Gomez for a used puckbag and future picks, then make some moves.

Only someone from Pitts would still use the word "ain't". You forgot to say, "youze".
