07:45 AM ET 01.27 | Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner and his agent plan to listen. Will the Bears be ready to talk? Following Sunday's Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Warner becomes a free agent. Meanwhile, here in Chicago, Mark Bartelstein is hatching an all-inclusive plan that would give other teams a chance to make an offer to his client. "The Bears obviously have to figure out which direction they want to go with the quarterback thing," Bartelstein said. "It has, obviously, been a point of contention for quite a while. We have to wait and see what they decide they want to do." The Cardinals will have to decide whether they want to commit to Warner while young first-round pick Matt Leinart sits in the wings.

How old is Kurt anyway? Would be a good pickup for the bears for the short-term.

The way his career has gone, he will go to the Bears and resurrect them too.... Scary.

Yeah, two year deal, and let him at least bring some excitement to the windy city. Now, whether their line could protect him enough.. That would be the interesting question.

why the hell would he want to leave the Cardinals?

January 27, 2009  08:02 AM ET

Apparently the Cardinals are out to prove that this success will by no means deter them from their goal of absolute futility.

January 27, 2009  08:03 AM ET

Warner has a quick release from playing in the AFL so he doesn't need a lot of time in the pocket.

He would be a good pickup for the Bears as long as they draft a QB to learn behind him for a year or two.

January 27, 2009  08:06 AM ET

This will not work unless the Bears get some top notch receivers....No way.no how

January 27, 2009  08:13 AM ET

Warner is good dontget me wrong but, he skips a little Rams good , Giants ok , Cards good, Bears? i think Bears need to give Orton one more shot. he was doing great before he got injured. Also, come on Orton has no WRS .. its like throwing to the wind... Orton was great at purdue, His record as a starter is not bad. Get WRS not QB Bears. o and young Oline could help too..

Warner has done well playing in "perfect conditions" (dome in St. Louis, perfect weather in AZ), but didn't play too well in the harsher climates (NY).

Chicago would be a bad idea. Fumble City!!

January 27, 2009  08:24 AM ET

The Cards can tag him for one year, can't they?

January 27, 2009  08:28 AM ET

non-story because it is so far-fetched

True.... I just hope it works out better than it did (if this happens) when he went to the G-Men....

That's what I was thinking at first but... does anybody else know if Lovie Smith and Warner were with the Rams at the same time (I want to think they were but still trying to get the cobwebs outta my head).

January 27, 2009  08:49 AM ET

I don't see Warner leaving Arizona for any team. I think he's got a couple more seasons in him, and I don't see Arizona handing the reins over to Leinart anytime soon. And yeah... why would Warner leave?

As for the Bears, they need a lot to set themselves up for future success, and it's going to take more than dropping a veteran QB into the mix for a short-term fix. I'm still amazed that they made little or no effort to get any good wideouts last offseason when they knew Berrian was going to follow the money, and that Muhammad was going to be let go (forget about the Devin Hester experiment; it didn't work that well, and it all but neutralized one the best special teams weapons of the decade). If the Bears want a quality QB, they need to get off their collective arse and make the effort (spend the money) to show they can put a quality offense on the field around one.

January 27, 2009  08:49 AM ET

Do the bears have the recievers for him to be effective?

January 27, 2009  08:54 AM ET

the Bears?
why would they want a Qb that actually is decent ?
