Nuggets shopping for low-post help

07:17 AM ET 01.28 | I think the Nuggets will make another move to enhance their team, but I would suggest that they will acquire another low-post player, to give them more size off the bench. Linas Kleiza is a restricted free agent but also expressed curiosity about playing overseas next season. He and J.R. Smith are both long-range threats off the bench. Could you get some different type of reserve for Kleiza, whose defense isn't the best? But the Nuggets have loved what he brings in running the court and with his ability to drive from the perimeter. And Denver developed him. All things to consider.

Trade JR Smith for low post help, then Denver would be really dangerous, because they would still have good three point shooters in Billups and Kleiza, but would also have another threat in the low post with Nene and Martin, along with a healthy Carmelo and that team could cause problems to a lot of Western teams, however I don't think they will actually challenge for the title because there are too many better teams, but they are still a team to be considered.

I think the Nuggets should wait and see how good they can really be. I mean they are winning games even without Melo. Which is crazy! They have only played like 25 games since the trade for Billups. I think it might be best to let these cats gel and mesh for a while. I personally think JR Smith is a straight up beast! Kleiza went OFF during the playoffs last year, but is really inconsistent at times.

I just don't see smith ever really fully developing with Melo there...
He's not a 'great' shooter. He's an athletic 2 guard- but melo's
game revolves around him having the ball- which is the same as
Smith- basically he's a smaller Melo.

I agree with MLPS about them doing well now- but if the do want
to upgrade- he absolutely could be moved- manageable contract
and still has upside.....

"Nuggets shopping for low-post help"......What happened to Camby? Oh, that's right--they traded him for a box of sox.

January 28, 2009  10:34 AM ET

Low post players are hard to come by. They are lucky they have Nene down low. I believe about a month ago something came up that they wanted to trade Nene. I thought that was crazy for them to do that. Almost every team is looking for a quality low post player. There are probably 4-5 teams that have a quality low post player and even then that player is either old or always injured. Al Jefferson is the only quality low post player out there because he is young and haven't been injured. But Minnesota won't give him up.

I opened this to say the exact same thing. Imagine how legit they would be as contenders now... the air must be really thin up there in Denver

Hey idiots, Camby a low post player? Please, I watched him play here for 4 years and he is not even close to being a low post player. All he does is play help D and follow up missed shots. Oh, and by the way, he's been hurt all year! The Nuggs made the right move by getting rid of him. Nene is ten times the offensive player Camby is. We just need a decent backup and we'll be fine.

Agreed 110%. Maybe you should get a guy like Carl Landry or Paul Milsapp. These are the next quality backup post players. Camby has no offense except for follow ups and some freaky outside shot just like KMart. But Camby is a help out defensive player and not a one on one defender. He gets eaten up by low post players and occasional outside shooting 7 footers,

I believe Denver is okay where they are at right now. This team looks scary come playoff time. The team is complete and they have the best set of players that are playing each position on the floor. They have an inside outside game. They have the low post, the outside shooters, the perfect PG for the team, and their defense is kinda getting there. Once Melo gets back the team is going to get scarier. My only little question mark is KMart. He seems unstable and can go off anytime. If they can trade him for Carl Landry then they will definitely be fine. Houston is not using Landry as much. Maybe KMart will do well w/ TMac and company.

Huh ?
how about Phoenix ?
- shaq (even at his advanced age is better than any denver center
- Richardson is ALOT better than smith
- Amare is LIGHTYEARS better than kmart
nash & bnillups- I'll give you a push
and melo is better than the phonix SF's

Lakers are better at 3 of 5, kobe, pau, bynum
SA is better at 3 of 5 duncan, ginob & Parker
even Portland is better at 3 of 5- aldrige, Roy, prysb/oden
a healthy Utadh is better at 3 of 5- williams, Boozer, Okur

And that's just the west

I'm talking atout the team itself. Everybody complements each other on the floor. A lot of teams don't have an inside/outside combo right now. The exceptions are the Lakers and Spurs w/ Gasol/Bynum and Duncan for low post. Low post is a problem in about 80% of the teams right now. I said the team is scary because the team is gelling at the right time. Phoenix is very inconsistent even though they may have better players on paper. The wins and losses speaks for itself. Overall as a team Denver is getting their defense and offense together.

The Nuggets would be better off keeping JR Smith. Kleiza is too inconsistent!

January 28, 2009  02:06 PM ET

they can trade JR smith for Charlie Villanueva they contracts match except JR is a free agent next year. JR Can help Bucks since redd is out for the rest of the season and carlie can give hem the low post that they are looking for. Charlie can put up numbers

the only problem with milsapp is he's in his contract year as well has JR. for one their contracts don't match and even if they did... Milsapp is only getting about $800k and he's beasting right now. His price tag is going up! he's a ligitement PF in the league. and since boozers out and he's the only other pf jazz has... its highly unlikely.

They should just keep their team. try to win as many games as they can and wait till melo gets back.

I do think getting Billups was a good move for them
- they are pretty solidly built- and are a good team....

you said "The team is complete and they have the best set of players that are playing each position on the floor"
that simply isn't true

Yeah but JR Smith seems more inclined to be in trouble and stuff, arguing with the coach and I read somewhere that Smith and Karl don't even speak, so Karl would rather keep Kleiza if that is the case.

see my post at #4-
smith will NEVER develop with Melo there.
they are one in the same & melo is better

Camby is a terrible on ball defender and is a huge injury risk. The Nuggets defensively are better this year without Camby. Partly because of Billups but mostly because of Nene and Martin playing good d underneath.

JR was given an extension before the start of the season so he isn't in a contract year. With Boozer in a walk year he is probably leaving the Jazz so I doubt they end up dealing Millsap.

The Nuggets just need a big man that can play solid defense and rebound for 10-15 minutes a game and I think they will be in good shape.
