06:42 AM ET 01.28 | With signing day Feb. 4, a few Miami oral commitments besides Bryce Brown are said to be considering other options, including Fort Pierce defensive tackle Luther Robinson (UF and UCF in the mix, but UM remains optimistic) and Pace High defensive back Kayvon Webster (said he's looking at UM, USF, West Virginia). Besides getting recent oral commitments from Georgia linebacker ShayonGreen and Delaware right tackle Malcolm Bunche, UM is optimistic about luring Cleveland offensive tackle Marcus Hall and Jacksonville linebacker Sam Barrington.

To paraphrase Yogi Berra, oral commitments aren't worth the paper they're written on.

As you say they are 'kids'. Secondly universities sometimes withdraw their own oral commitments. So where is the dishonor? There is no rule that once you agree to accept a scholarship that you must follow through. These kids receive what is likely the greatest sales pitch of their young lives and to say that they dishonor themselves because of their vulnerability is unreasonable. I wonder if you have ever backed out on an oral commitment.

Dishonor is a harsh word, especially when universities occasionally withdraw their offers. Have you ever backed out of one of your own oral commitments? If so then to judge another for the same thing you have done would be dishonorable.

Haha, yeah and I'm sure you know everything. Kids decommitt all the time. And, why wouldnt they from the U? What does Miami have going for it? Randy Shannon is a ****. The U will lose some commitments. Most teams do. But, ask yourself this:
If you are a big time recruit and Florida offers you a scholly and Miami offers you a scholly.....which is more enticing? It's like deciding between Jessica Alba and Rhea Perlman.

obviously the U is pretty enticing with the class they have this year, even if they lose a couple of guys

I hope the U loses more commits for being a very unethical school.

Maybe if Shannon and The U hadn't tried to screw over Marve when he wanted to transfer these commits wouldn't be reconsidering.

Shannon might not have Urban Meyer/Nick Saban powers to magically uplift a program, but he already is and will continue to be a good coach for the program. He's not perfect, as evidenced by his handling of the Marve situation(s), but he demands respect for the game and discipline, he's committed to making the "Thug U" label obsolete, he (with the exception of Marve) relates to his players well and recruits well (by locking down Southern Florida and the Miami area), and is defensive-minded. Let Nix take care of the offense, he will become a good one once Miami gets a few more offensive playmakers (Bryce Brown is a start, they haven't had an elite running back really since Frank Gore), Shannon can keep bringing in the Browns and Fortsons and Spences on defense and it will blossom... if he can find a QB who's either talented or can play in Nix's system (J. Harris maybe?), they'll be winning 10 games in 2 years, and from there they can keep attracting the top talent that will make them a BCS player year in and year out ala 10 years ago.
