Stars in market for defenseman, goalie

09:05 AM ET 01.28 | The Stars, I believe, do not want to spend a huge amount of money at the trade deadline (they have cap space, but they are using a lot of their internal budget to pay injured players) and do not want to give up prospects they value. So they probably are out on trying to get any big names. But if the team is in the hunt and could pick up a quality defenseman or a backup goalie, I think they will be interested. So is it time to start scouting the players who might be out there? ESPN's Scott Burnside lists Atlanta's Mathieu Schnedier and Nic Havelid as players who could be had, so Tuesday's game should provide a chance to see what they have. (As I said earlier, I don't think the Stars have what it takes to get a player like Ilya Kovalchuk). Anybody else you want to see them go after? The Isles might shop top D-men Brendan Witt or Radek Martinek, according to Newsday. What would the cost for either be? Would it be worth it? Witt has two years remaining at $3 million a year. Martinek has two more years at $1.5 million.
