Favre-to-Vikings move possible

The Brett Favre-Vikings rumors have been circulating for a week. It's risky, but if the Vikings are unable to trade for Matt Cassel of New England or Matt Hasselbeck of Seattle, it wouldn't be shocking if they made a run at Favre should he become available, as expected. New Jets coach Rex Ryan expects Favre to attend offseason workouts, which Favre rarely did when he was in Green Bay. Currently, Favre counts for nearly $13 million on the Jets' tight salary cap, and they could save that money if they place him on waivers next month. The future hall of famer would then become a free agent and available to the Vikings, who were interested in him last summer. No doubt he would sell a lot of tickets in Minnesota despite the sour economy. Farve, 39, finished last season with a sore shoulder. If he shows he can still pass and play, his one-year price tag would be expected to be in the $9 million range.

Where do they get this crap?? Won't happen...!

January 29, 2009  07:51 AM ET

i for one still believe favre can get it done. and i believe the vikes were the best fit for him from the beginning and its truly were he wanted to go. better defense than the jets and certainly a beast of a running game. if favre becomes a free agent i could actually see this coming to fruitiion.

farve needs to go back to his farm and shuck corn... i'm just tired of hearing this soap opera go on and on... be done with it for crying out loud...

Nine million for one Brett Farve year? Is that a million for every game he throws more ints than tds?

I vow I am not going to let T&R ruin my day with this BS. Enough said.

January 29, 2009  08:10 AM ET

I'm waiting for Peter King to tell me where Favre will play in 2010.

Okay Opie!

Tell you what, this isnt as bad as reading real news.........ouch!

He still makes WAY too many mistakes. People knock Jackson for making poor decisions, but Favre is as cavalier with the ball as anybody has ever been. Ask the Jets how well that whole thing went. It's not a good idea.

January 29, 2009  08:14 AM ET

If Favre is your QB you better have a great defense becaue he's going to give the ball to the other team ALOT!!!!!!

January 29, 2009  08:17 AM ET

I expect the Vikes to make a push for some big free agents, but we also need to resign guys like Birk, Kleinsasser, and Sharper who are key parts to our team. How about we get a right tackle while we're at it. A QB fixes most of our problems, but not Favre. Go get Cassel, Hasslebeck is to injury prone, but is good when healthy.

January 29, 2009  08:34 AM ET

lol...I'm assuming the minnisota GM actually watched him play last year.
Believe me - as a JETS fan- I'd LOVE for them to take him off our hands- but doubt it will happen

January 29, 2009  08:38 AM ET

This is the best lead story they could come up with today?

January 29, 2009  08:45 AM ET

I believe the packers put in a no NFC NORTH trade clause. LOOK IT UP. If he goes there Jets have to forfeit alot of draft picks

January 29, 2009  08:47 AM ET

Please take him. He'll start out super fast and fade like usuall. And if you make the playoffs he'll be throwing his punts in the air hoping for someone to catch it with his fingers crossed.

Poor Vikings fans....

In a way, I almost hope this happens. Then Brett Favre can ruin the collective psyche of ANOTHER fanbase. But I do like Adrian Peterson so I kinda hope it doesn't happen. Nothing like seeing your playoff hopes go down in flames as Favre throws another interception. Of course, it will probably end the same way with Tavaris Jackson, but he doesn't cost nearly as much against your salary cap.
