06:34 AM ET 02.03 | As for the World Cup, the USSF put in for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments, although Europe (re: England) seems to be a lock for 2018 since by then it will have been 12 years since the tournament would have been played there. The U.S. has a better chance for 2022. At that point, it would have been 28 years since CONCACAF served as host, although Mexico (1986) has waited longer than the U.S. (1994). FIFA is expected to release the list of nations that formally applied Tuesday. Others expressing their intention to bid included Russia, Japan, Indonesia, Qatar, Australia and joint bids from Spain and Portugal and the Netherlands and Belgium. FIFA will announce both sites in December 2010. Gulati said it was too early to narrow down stadium choices but said new NFL stadiums will make a more attractive bid and give the United States a decided advantage over Mexico.

keeper??? are you serious??? you haven't heard about the time travel world cup they are going to host to redo 2002??? they are sick of pretending there wasn't any match fixing... s korea in the semis? my arse

I hate to do this, but I'm gonna have to pick Brazil over Germany in the final.

February 3, 2009  09:07 AM ET

I think that's just FN's way of telling us there is aboslutely no way of hosting anything ever again. Also, didn't FIFA say they wouldn't consider any joint bids? I'm not a huge fan of joint bids, but I think it's careless to disregard them altogether.

well every smart **** comment was said so i guess ill just move onto my point...

i would be stoked if the US got it in 2022.... i may just have to fork over the crap load of money to see the US (assuming they make it then O.o)...

February 3, 2009  09:29 AM ET

You can see how political it is by the USSF saying that having Obama in office helps the US chance in their bid.

February 3, 2009  10:09 AM ET

let's do it!

February 3, 2009  10:36 AM ET

This would be great if it happened! I will be old by then but still, and the US is automatically in since they would be the host of the tourny. Let's pray that they give it too us!

February 3, 2009  11:05 AM ET

So... Far... Off. I hope I'm still alive then.

February 3, 2009  12:01 PM ET

Let's hope this happens....

i honestly see 2022 as well. FIFA can only go but so long before they feel they have go "home" to Europe. What stadiums does anything would be on the short list??

Yeah, as I said before the US needs another. FIFA is now all about the money, and the USA 94 WC was the most profitable WC in history. A win-win situation.

In other news, Rangers have blocked German club Shalke 04 from signing winger DaMarcus Beasley (ARGH!!!!) and Arsenal FINALLY complete the signing of Zenit St. Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin.

Why would you assume FanNation messed up a story written by a Newark newspaper? Why is it so hard to believe that Japan would bid for the 2022 Cup? That would be 20 years after when they co-hosted the Cup. That's 5 World Cups difference. It's a smart move to bid again for it if FIFA decides they're they best choice out of Asian countries to host. Man, being cynical and being intelligent are often so far apart.

you must've missed it but this is what the title originally read:

"USA more likely to get 2002 World Cup"

at which point the jokes came out about Japan/Korea...

I was thinking the same thing. For us old guys, well, I don't even want to think of 2022. Makes me feel like a grandpa.

Wait, you're not the guy who writes up the headlines for articles on Fannation, are you? Congratulations on only taking three hours after this article was posted to fix the headline!

Don't worry, FIFA at some point will mess everything up, again.

Also, it's not a given the US gets 2022, we may be doing 2010 or 2014...I'm just saying.
The Plan B, C, & D are all South Africa but the back-up plan not in writing has an option of US hosting. Same applies to 2014, Brazil has some serious crime and infrastructure issues as well.

2022 is appropriate. Give England the Cup in 2018 (seriously, they have been waiting since 1966 to host another one), the U.S. gets 2022 and give Australia 2026.Everyone wins!

perfect!
