Georgia hasn't talked to Knight

Bobby Knight said on Monday that no one from Georgia has contacted him about coaching its men's basketball team. Knight, the winningest Division I men's college basketball coach ever, told ESPN radio that even though he resigned from Texas Tech abruptly a year ago, he would return to coaching if the situation was right for him and for the school. Georgia is looking for a coach because athletics director Damon Evans fired Dennis Felton last Thursday, after Georgia sustained its fifth consecutive loss to open SEC play. Knight surprisingly surfaced as a candidate at Georgia after a friend of his told AJC columnist Furman Bisher that Knight would accept the job if offered. University President Michael Adams told the AJC on Saturday that he wouldn't speculate on Knight, or any other candidate. Evans said on Monday that he also wouldn't speculate on any candidates.

This is funny/strange. Just to put it out there - I would take the job if offered as well ;)

Yes, this is weird. This is kinda like when ESPN said that Les Miles was going to coach at Michigan before the SEC championship game, and Miles came out and gave that crazy speech. Hearsay is a beechwood limb.

My thoughts exactly. No thanks!

Georgia would be crazy not to go after Bobby.

It's not whether you want to HIRE Bobby Knight. The question is are you going to be around to FIRE him, because you know someone will have to fire him sooner or later. He is going to explode on someone and then the crap begins.

As someone who grew up in Indiana and still lived there when the Hoosiers fired Bobby Knight, I just don't get it. Do you really want this ticking time bomb represting your school???

It's kinda odd, just last week I was talking to my dad about the old days of Bobby Knight and Gene Keady- you know, one who threw chairs around and gave it the refs and the other who had a vain popping out of his neck and spit flying everywhere while letting his thoughts on the matter be made known to the refs. Ah, the days of my childhood...

On a snide note- the man must really love to wear red.

As a UGA alum, I have always wanted a relevant basketball program. I tire of getting drubbed every year by florida, tennessee, vandy, kentucky, etc. Our last coach had an overall losing record, and kicked off too many good players, after our miracle SEC title last year. But the simple fact is that Knight has more wins than any other coach in D-1 history. He has a 40+ year coaching legacy that even Roy Williams and Kryzewski can't match. I Knight wants to come to Georgia for 5 years, and put our program on the map, then I welcome it.

I also grew up in Indiana in the Bobby Knight era. He IS College Basketball. He has high expectations both athletically more importantly academically for his team/students. He is a teacher first. Controversial at times-- yes-- But the vast majority of the players under him respect him and still speak high regard of him. As a fan, I would LOVE to see him wear red again!
