Rangers leaving room for Sheets

07:31 AM ET 02.03 | Left-hander Eddie Guardado has agreed to return to the Rangers on a non-roster deal, according to major-league sources. A key component of the Guardado agreement for the Rangers is that a roster spot remains open in case they are able to sign free-agent starter Ben Sheets. Daniels said only that the lines of communication remain open with Sheets and his agent, Casey Close. The phone could start ringing more in the coming days after another Sheets suitor, the New York Mets, agreed to a three-year, $36-million contract with free-agent lefty Oliver Perez. Another Close client, Jason Jennings, is also on the Rangers' radar after Eric Hurley underwent season-ending surgery two weeks ago.
