Gruden preparing for college job?

More than two weeks since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired Jon Gruden, his alarm still buzzes at 3:17 a.m. Time to go to work. "You have to keep trying to get better," Gruden said. His old desk at One Buc Place is now occupied by Raheem Morris, but the only coach to lead the franchise to a Super Bowl championship has a new place to hole up in the dark. It's at the St. Pete Times Forum downtown, where Tampa Bay Storm Coach Tim Marcum of the Arena Football League has given Gruden an office complete with all the computer equipment needed to engage in his passion of breaking down tape. The man has a new mission (and it's not to lower his golf handicap). "I want to learn the spread offense," Gruden said. "This is exciting for me." Whether that means Gruden's next job ??? and he'll definitely have one ??? will be in college or the NFL is anyone's guess.

When is USC gonna get sanctioned for Reggie Bush?

I don't think USC is cooperating with the NCAA but I have heard the investigation is ongoing. It is a matter of time before USC gets caught.

Potential places would include anywhere with a coach on the hot seat....
Pitt, Notre Dame, Colorado, Arizona, Virginia, Louisville, Texas A&M (!),

If some program guarantees the money (a la Nick Saban) , I could see Jon Gruden taking a college job.

He wont go to aTm. That program is wound way too tight around its alumni, boosters and traditions. Look at their last coaching selection - what an absolute whiff!!

Gruden would be a great pick though. He would put an emphasis on offensive skill positions like quarterback and tailback and give them a fighting chance in the Big 12.

USC is not involved with the surreptitious dealing that Bush did... A university can have only so much control over its young men... the fact that it has taken this long and really nothing has come up means Bush is the sole culprit and should be stripped of his Heismann and probably SC its national championships

February 8, 2009  01:23 PM ET

...blonde hair..blue eyes... perfect fit for the irish...perfect!!

February 8, 2009  01:26 PM ET

the ncaa will never sanction USC for the bush years..why not??..because bush has paid their required fee to forget rule breaking..

February 8, 2009  01:27 PM ET

Gruden would only go to a program that would pay somewhere close to NFL money. Besides ND what team with a coach on the hot seat would pay that much? Gruden isn't about to be a college coach this season.

The dude's a machine...

February 8, 2009  01:54 PM ET

I cannot see Gruden's personality fitting with college kids.

February 8, 2009  02:22 PM ET

Maybe he should try to take UCF to a level they haven't seen since Daunte Culpepper...

February 8, 2009  02:55 PM ET

The fact that his brother Jay, coaches Orlando in the AFL doesn't extend him this kind of courtesy shows what an ****.hole Gruden is.

QueenFootball why don't you guys find a new dead horse to beat?

Yeah, but as the NCAA is demonstrating with the FSU academic thing - USC may never actually hear what their punishment would be if they DO get caught. Didn't FSU have its hearing in October, and the NCAA still hasn't informed them what their penalties will be? That's a slow response time...

Gruden is OVERRATED....please he took a team that already had a good base of talent to the Superbowl....hasnt done much since then...gets to the playoffs only to be kicked out by a team usually seeded lower than them.

it's called "lack of institutional control". it falls on the head coach. just ask barry switzer. at usc all it takes is a shrug of the shoulders and "i was not aware". and everything is hunky dory. pretty sweet deal for them.
