Brey throws out Notre Dame lineup
From 1982 to 1987, Mike Brey was an assistant coach at the high school level. And apparently he's reaching that far back to find answers for what ails his Notre Dame basketball team. Following a breathtakingly bad 89-63 loss to UCLA on Saturday, Brey said every spot in the starting lineup and in the rotation is there for the taking this week, in advance of Louisvill'es visit Thursday night. "All spots open, baby," Brey said. "It's like tryouts. I used to be a high school coach -- we'll have tryouts. That's the atmosphere we need to be in as we go home." Ryan Ayers, Zach Hillesland, Luke Zeller, Jon Peoples and even Tory Jackson on Saturday have been shuttled in and out of the starting five during the current seven-game losing streak, to no avail. None of the Irish players seem particularly averse to the idea of drastic measures at this point.

Poor Irish. They started out the year with so much promise and then ran into the meat-grinder of the Big East. I hope they weren't expecting a break by coming out to Westwood.
Have to admit that game was fun to watch but I usually want ND athletics to do well. Harangody is a stud. Good luck against Louiville (OUCH! What a brutal schedule!)

Why hasn't Brey been fired yet? I doubt they will win another game this season.

The Irish were able to sneak up on some teams, in a "softer" (or as soft as the big east can get) big east last year, and this year teams are smart enough to prevent the outside shots that ND lives on. The big east is a tough conference if you've only got one weapon at your disposal.

Haha. All the ND fans thought they were contenders. They are as bad as the football team.
