Richt: Scoring recruits 'kind of nutty'

When Georgia landed wide receiver Marlon Brown of Memphis, it ended an 0-for-4 streak on signing day for the Bulldogs with prospects who had listed UGA as one of their finalists (S Jawana Starling, LB Jarvis Jones, OL Bobby Massie and WR Stephen Hill) but went elsewhere. What did Georgia coach Mark Richt think about signing Brown after missing on four potential recruits in a row? "It's not an 0-for-4 skid. I don't even know who's keeping score. I think it's ridiculous to do that. Keeping score like that, I guess, is fun for you guys and makes news, but I think it's kind of nutty." Richt played down the spectacle of "signing day announcements," but admitted that several UGA assistant coaches whooped and hollered after watching Brown on EPSNU.

ya' think... sure you can rank top flight picks, but it's still always a crap shoot... once they move up a level the game just gets quicker, (but sometimes it's just homesickness, see: V. Hazelton)...like separating the wheat from the chaff

but I have to admit, I love it

.
I'm waiting for the year that High School coaches just go ahead and implant a
microchip into each players forearm, and a tracking device around their ankle.
For good players gone bad, that'll even help out the cops...

He also must think scoring in games and winning them kinda nutty too. (I'm just kidding, don't get all upset. It's a joke!).

Rictus actually displays an admirable trait for a coach, especially compared with Excitable Boy. Restraint and self-referencing. But just like Tommy Bowden wasn't able to consistently do at Clemson, he's going to have to figure out how to motivate the Dawgs to play above their talent level (without creating future vengeance beat downs from the other guy in the year where there is just one chance to escape the SEC alive for the BNC, which is every year).

I think that's why he's saying - pay no attention to the 0-4, it's coaching and motivation that makes it work. There are some fairly huge percentage of toutcruits who never do a thing. And there are some coaches who can take either side of the field and win (my players or yours). Spurrier has that rep, although it's a bit tarnished of late, but he still can surprise some folks. There are a slew of others. Rictus is smart enough to be one of them if he could just get his heart rate up to about 80.

I was just on the campus of San Diego State this past weekend and thought how in the world they were able to get Marshall Faulk all the way over there from Louisiana? It does show that recruiting is not an exact science and the coaches who get the most out of their players are the ones who stay successful.

You are awesome.

georgia tech you hate richt because he is 7-1 against you, and the only year you beat us you got crushed the game after by an LSU defense georgia scored 52 on.

awww its ok, nerds arent supposed to play football anyways.

Georgia Tech has more of a legacy than Georgia. Look up the names who coached at Georgia Tech. Their latest hero was Bobby Ross. George O'Leary wasn't all that bad either. Compare that to Ray Goff.

And, as for LSU, they actually found their quarterback in the bowl game. If Georgia plays LSU next year, they are toast.

Heck, even look out for Kiffin.

In case you are clueless, try John Heisman.

GT has a coach again....look out.

How many national championships does UGA have? That's right, less than Tech.

For that matter, how many SEC championships does UGA have? Oh yeah, ALSO less than Tech.

Recruitong cervices are usually not even that close to each other. One had DJ Fluker as a 5 star DT and another had him as the no.1 OT in the nation while some have one guy as a 5 star and another has a player as a 3 star. Say Cierre Wood is no.ath according to ESPN while another has him as the no.2 RB and another didn't have him as a top 5 RB all ranging from 4 to 5 stars. Obviously there are more disparaging gaps but that just shows you how some sites view players differently ,say one will have a west coast bias another will have a SE bias making for some varied classes. Another funny thing is how some guys were 2 star players and become 1st rounders while the some no.1 players flop.

Obviously its hard to gauge a HS just like its hard to gauge a college player going to the pros though much different.

Hey Gator moron, what history the Gators have before Spurrier came??? Nothing, but u probably don't know that because u probably didn't follow them until started winning like most Gator fans.

As for the Tech fans, Army and Navy used to be powerhouses too back when Tech was actually relevant. Don't worry though nerds, only another 7 years before u get to win another win over UGA

As for the Bama fan, don't be mad because Richt is undefeated in your stadium since he became head coach at UGA. In 2008, Saban got his first and only win in Sanford Stadium.

how many of those championships were in the last 60 years????
....all that matters is UGA whoops that a.$.$ every year and once in a while GT gets a win....we dont even take offense at GT fans' comments becasue they are just too pathetic...they dont even sell out a stadium in a town of 5 million and a stadium that holds like 40K.

Yeah, great football school. LOL.

Back to world of warcraft for you.

Too bad Stafford opted for the NFL. Who will be the QB at UGA in '09?

My goodness can georgia tech fans know what the heck they are talking about. UGA has plenty more SEC titles than GTU HAS.. please do you freaking research.. Also UGA and gtu have about the same number of titles if you want to count titles just like gtu does..

Bubba,
Joe Cox, a 5th year senior, will be the starting QB at Georgia. Yes the same guy who broke most of chris leak's records at independence. He knows the offense and will do just fine. He has plenty of solid offensive weapons and a very good Oline.

Dawgs - I saw Stafford play in high school. He looked like a pro then, and I'm disappointed he bolted for the NFL. I hope he likes playing in Detriot! Glad to hear UGA has someone waiting in the wings.
