Cavs in market for Camby or Smith?

The Cavs locker room is a lab brimming with good chemistry, but they're also light in one ingredient. It's why acquiring Marcus Camby has its merits. If not him, Joe Smith. When the Cavs lost in L.A. while missing Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the Lakers scored 42 points inside. You could've predicted it. But Sunday with Z on the court and the Lakers minus Andrew Bynum, L.A. scored 62. That's not NBA basketball. It's Pop-a-Shot at the local sports bar. Teams don't make moves based on a NBA Finals matchup. So if it helps justify it, they could use more size against Orlando and even Boston, too.

The Cavs need Camby and Vince Carter to win it all.....otherwise they lose in conference or NBA finals....at present they cannot matchup with the Lakers and probably the Celts or Magic.....

I don't think Camby is the answer. He has no low post game and does not have a low post defense. This guy is an outside shooter and a help out defender. He will not be able to guard guys like Perkins, Garnett, Howard, or Rasheed Wallace. He is just a help out defender and a offensive rebounder if you don't box him out. Smith would be okay because he has more low post game and already knows the Cleveland system.

The Cavs need a big man who can bang and that would be Brad Miller. Miller has no problem giving the hard foul. He can stretch the defense with his shooting and thus not clogging the lane to allow Lebron to drive to the basket. The only problem I see is if you have both him and Z on the court at the same time. Miller might be too slow to guard some of the better power forwards and you Big Z can't.

Bottom line with the cavs is they simply need LBJ to be his domniant self-
He missed shots vs the lakers he typically makes & if he hit them- TOTALLY different results.

Sure another big would help- but the bigs they're talking about aren't really a significant upgrade from what they already have

February 9, 2009  09:36 AM ET

I was at the game yesterday. The Cavs looked completely out of sync. If LeBron has an off night, this team can't beat the Celtics, the Magic, or maybe even the Pistons. What happened to their interest in BRAD MILLER!!! Camby could fit, but wouldn't address the problem. The Cavs need offense inside as well. How many times must I say it--a team without an inside game will eventually become jumpshooters, and jumpshots have a tendancy to forsake you in the 4th quarter. This is exactly what happened last night, as Lebron goes 5 for 20.

February 9, 2009  09:41 AM ET

I expect they'll ship out Wally's contract for a significant piece

Meanwhile... IT'S LOVELY IN LAKERLAND!

(RJ is out sick today - hangover)

February 9, 2009  10:32 AM ET

Yeah Hllywd hit the nail on the head, they need to go after Brad Miller.

San Antonio proved against Cleveland that once LeBron get's closed down, the Cavs flat out struggle, and although the team has changed since then and the addition of Mo Williams sure makes them better, but still if LeBron does have an off-night or gets shut down by the defense then the Cavs will struggle to win. They need a better center or another scorer aside from Mo Williams!

CHRIS BROWN BEATING UP ON RIHANNA LAST NIGHT.. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO HER?!

February 9, 2009  10:47 AM ET

he would be a excellent match for the spurs but we just dont any asset player to trade, cmon clips lets do a memphis trade give us camby for nothing hahaha!!

February 9, 2009  10:54 AM ET

Camby will be great with Cleveland.

February 9, 2009  10:56 AM ET

I have always liked Marcus Camby but he isn't a fit for the Cavs. It would help to have someone who can score in that low post and as we all know Camby doesn't have much of an offensive game.

Brad Miller would be the best fit for the Cavs but if they want to make a minor acquisition, Joe Smith could also assist them.

February 9, 2009  11:06 AM ET

Did you see how the Lakers were "D"ing up against the Cavs. Every time Varejoa or Wallace got the ball all they did was back off them and dared them to shoot the rock. Even if LBJ went 10 for 20 they were still going to lose that game. Fact is the Cavs don't need Camby. Camby can't shoot! When it comes to these top tier teams your only as strong as your weakest link. Even when Luke Walton, Ariza or Sasha are out on the second squad. They can all shoot the pill. Wallace , Varejoa, can't shoot. Do they need another player on the floor that has to differ the ball to LB or Mo?

February 9, 2009  11:32 AM ET

After watching the Lakers dismantle the Cavs with a 90% Kobe oh mane the Cavs are missing an ingredient in there recipe!

February 9, 2009  11:37 AM ET

actually,if he goes 10-20 its all tied up,assuming there were no 3's.

February 9, 2009  11:43 AM ET

its just 1 game.kobe & lebron's off nights(although Lebron, the more complete player found other ways to contribute),equaled each other out.the diff. was odom's career game.if the cavs would have one ,it would still be just 1 game.didnt the lakers lose,at home to the bobcats?the cavs lost to the wizards!still those were just 1 game.

February 9, 2009  11:54 AM ET

They need to do something after James choked against the Lakers. 5-20 and 1-7 on shots 5 feet and less.

James might do it all but Sunday Cavs needed James to carry the load offensively and he couldnt.

February 9, 2009  11:55 AM ET

"was odom's career game"

Sunday wasnt a career game for Odom. That was a season high.

February 9, 2009  11:57 AM ET

Been saying they should get Brad Miller for a while now. He is the kind of a big they need. Rebounder, solid passer and can still score.

February 9, 2009  12:17 PM ET

Yesturday game proved that the lakers are clearly the best team in NBA. I have been saying this for the last 3 months, They are the deepest and talented team I seen in a long time. Kobe just showed to the world why he is the best player in the world. He has been schooling Prince James in both games this year. That killer fade away jumper over Prince James was absolutely sick. Kobe skill level and talents are just similar to Michael Jordan. Prince James for many times in his career chokes under pressure. He still miss key free throws and his jumper still needs work. Prince James is just not to same calibur or talent has of a Kobe or Jordan. If haven't been for Z or Wally it would have been a blowout for LA. Kobe should be the MVP again this year but ESPN and other sport writers is trying to build up and overhype Prince James. Matter of fact and the God given truth, Kobe is twice the player of Prince James.

Also that cat Hickson is garbage he doesn't even know how to box out effectively letting Odom get all those boards was unbelievable. Remember that play where Farmar shot the 3 from the perimeter and Odom had the put back. That dude Hickson looked like a Dear in the headlights. I'm telling ya the Cavs need someone else or it's a wrap! No Bynum, and Kobe is getting IV's and ish. What's funny is y'all cavs fans were so firm on getting rid of Wally, Man you guys have been lucky to have him lately. Get rid of him and you only have Pav, Mo, LBJ, and Z(when healthy) that can truly shoot the pill.
