Kiffin: Grandma tipped recruit to UGA

New Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin has had so much to say since signing day, that it is difficult to keep up with it all. However, Kiffin's comments on UGA-bound recruit Marlon Brown are still a popular topic of discussion in Georgia, nearly a week later. The wide receiver from Memphis signed with Georgia over Tennessee and Ohio State. "The statement that I made [when I was hired] was that we were going to put a fence around the state of Tennessee," Kiffin told the Knoxville News. "Basically every kid that we offered that we continued to recruit in-state through this process we signed, except for Marlon." Kiffin was asked why he thought Brown signed with Georgia. "Marlon called [the night before signing day] and said that he loved it here, but his grandmother wouldn't let him come," Kiffin told the Knoxville News. "I don't know what you do about that ..."

I certainly hope that when the season starts that he shows he can coach, and take away from the distractions that he's been causing with his mouth.

He's not telling the whole story. Coach Ogeron deply offended Marlon Brown and his grandmother. I heard the interview Marlon Brown gave and he said, "Coach Ogeron said something that deeply offended us. And I decided that I didn't want to go to Tennessee." I have read Coach O referred to himself as a C.o.o.nass which could be easily seen as offensive no matter how it was phrased.

Tough to go against Grandmama

Lane needs to hush now. Now he's bringing in kid's grandmamas?

February 11, 2009  10:30 AM ET

Lane had better win some games. He should take a lesson from slick rick at ucla. He took out a full page ad announcing he was taking over LA before he had coached a game. kinda went south from there.

February 11, 2009  10:40 AM ET

i wouldn't argue with my grandma either

February 11, 2009  10:43 AM ET

Maybe Gramdma can play quarterback for him.

I started thinking that this was the right hire for UT but now with his mouth he has become that much of a less attractice hire

You get over yourself.

the thing with Marlon's family being offended by Orgeron is, rumor has it, that Orgeron showed up either drunk or smelling strongly of alchohol.

Especially if it wasn't Jack Daniels he'd been drinking.

This is like a daily soap opera with the new Tennessee coaching staff. Fulmer certainly wasn't the most likable guy in the world but these guys are taking it to a new level.

So, I don't get it. Did he mean he was going to put a fence around Memphis that would keep all recruits in, except the ones that are tipped to somewhere else? What happens if all of them "tip" to somewhere else.

Will the excuse be, "Well, I don't know what you do about that...."

****.a.s.s. is a term for cajuns, which is what Orgeron is. Orgeron is definitely a ****.a.s.s. It was originally considered offensive, but is now taken as a term of endearment by every cajun I've ever met, my family included.

That said, Orgeron is a idiot and probably used a word reserved for Klan rallies.
