Jets may pursue Anderson

05:08 AM ET 02.13 | There is talk the Jets might pursue Derek Anderson when he's waived by the Browns. But they will need him to take their deal and cannot be overly aggressive in their pursuit. My hunch, though, is that the Jets will look to the draft to find their QB of the future. Rex Ryan witnessed firsthand in Baltimore what a rookie like Joe Flacco can do for a team, and he???ll look to find a similar talent in this draft. The Jets will be at every top quarterback workout this spring. For them, the road to improvement goes through the draft.

What a debacle of decisions for the Jets at filling the QB position.

This is a team that treats players like children and if they complain... they punish them (see Chris Baker and Pete Kendall)..... why any grown man would want to deal with that team is beyond me.

What a difference a year makes. Anderson last year at this time had generated the same buzz that Cassel is now. So its hard to say if a trade will help him and he will look like the QB of two seasons ago, or not.

Or not.

Is the National Football Post some insert in the NY Post? Both publications have about the same credibility.

Nah, it's this rag that peep show houses tape to the back of the bathroom stall doors.

Let's start calling it the "Stall Street Journal."

"What a debacle of decisions for the Jets at filling the QB position"

it been like 2 days since Farve retired
give them a break.

They LIKE clemens & Ratliff & want one of them to be the QB- either will have a good O line & running game-
Forget journeymen career back-up guys line anderson...
maybe you get lucky with a young guy you have-

February 13, 2009  09:15 AM ET

Why do the Jets want this guy? I'm sure they can convince Brad Johnson to hang around the league for one more year ...

February 13, 2009  09:55 AM ET

great idea..you should give him a huge contract too..that really worked out well for the browns...really though, would he be worse than farve???

February 13, 2009  10:28 AM ET

The Jets should sign Matt Cassell to a 5 year contract. He is well worth the 2 first round draft pick penalty paid to NE because of the Franchise Tag. NE will not be able to match the offer because they cannot afford two high priced QBs for more than 1 year. Parcells did this with Curtis Martin and never looked back - young, winning QBs are hard to find. It's time the Jets raided NE again.

February 13, 2009  10:38 AM ET

Why would they want Derek Flash-in-the-pAnderson?

February 13, 2009  10:49 AM ET

Wish we had traded him last year so we could have cashed in with multiple draft picks (like the Patriots will do with Matt Cassel). At least we can get him off the books and maybe get some help on our O and D lines. Now if only we could unload Brady......

February 13, 2009  11:05 AM ET

They can have him.

February 13, 2009  11:48 AM ET

Jeff Garcia should be on the Jets radar. They are in a win now mode and Garcia has taken 3 different franchises to the playoffs in his career.

February 13, 2009  11:49 AM ET

Jets should go after Leftwich for a 2-3 year deal worth 8-10 million. He rebounded nicely with Pittsburgh and when he had a good OL in Jacksonville he was pretty good. They just need someone to manage the game.

They need to use their 1st round pick on a deep threat at WR.

Go after MLB Terrell Suggs.

February 13, 2009  11:50 AM ET

Garcia is close to being done.

February 13, 2009  12:05 PM ET

Maybe but I'm sure people thought that too this season, and last. Taking away the Bucs collapse which can be attributed to the whole team, Garcia led them to a 9-3 record. The Jets need to start the search for the future QB, and Garcia can certainly hold down the fort until maybe a Mark Sanchez is ready

February 13, 2009  12:21 PM ET

IMO, Anderson is a one hit wonder. Doubtful that he'll find success with the Jets. If he was so good, then why did he have so many the following year with the Browns?

February 13, 2009  12:25 PM ET

Anderson isn't going to be waived, we have the cap space to absorb his 5m roster bonus.

He'll be traded during the draft before we waive him.

In an exclusive National Football Compost analysis, there are 32 teams running offensive schemes using a quarterback under center. With the stunning loss of Brett Favre changing the way football is played (defenses will be scoring fewer touchdowns) the quarterback position is even more vital today. Although this is more of a hunch based on the way football people ignore my questions and treat me with disdain, I feel Cleveland will be taking a close look at Derek Anderson and they may keep him. If not they will trade him and leaves 31 teams who will be able to consider bringing him on board.
