Michigan QB to transfer

Quarterback Steven Threet will transfer from the University of Michigan, according to multiple reports. The Adrian native, who started eight games at quarterback last season for the Wolverines, is unsure where he will play next season. Threet transferred from Georgia Tech prior to the 2007 season. He sat out the following year due to NCAA transfer rules before taking the majority of snaps for the Wolverines as redshirt freshman last season. If he transfers to another FBS school, Threet will have to sit out the 2009 season. The Wolverines have two four-star quarterbacks joining their roster as part of their 2009 recruiting class. Tate Forcier is already enrolled along with six other early enrollee recruits, and fellow QB Denard Robinson will join the team after graduating from high school this spring.

This guy has spent more time in a U-Haul then a football field.

Normally, I would dispute dumb claims like this, but you're clearly the expert on this topic...

Can't blame Threet for moving on, but it would be nice to have a bit of stability at QB to know we arent going to take a step back.

Threet, how about playing for English down the road?

Herein lies the reason kids shouldn't lose another year of eligibility. Had he known this would end up being a run-and-shoot offense, he would have never signed there. Meanwhile, his life gets thrown into limbo as administrators play musical chairs with the coaching staff ... his alledged mentors.

And I am sure that you will hear of him appealing for a 6th yr of eligibility

The way Wade Phillips takes it from Jerry Jones? Yeah, you're right maybe RickRod could be the Cowboys next head coach, it looks like he's got the formation down...........

Too bad that Steven couldn't just transfer to another' Slow 10' school without having to sit out a year..........Would love to see some of these UM transfers be able to play against RR and show him how much talent that they do have.........Sad to think that a young players future is held in the hands of someone who only cares about the MONEY and their EGO instead of student athletes.
Just hope that this is another BIG BITE of KARMA for RR to try and digest........But as always with UM fans and RR...."Not my style of player", or "Just wait til next year "....excuses, excuses, excuses............How many recruits AND veteren players gone since Fraud hit town.?.........Hope it was worth the money and the "fall off the map" for the football team and UM's athletic dept. !!

sorry about the double posting.....

Wow, from reading these comments it seems that you guys actually thought Threet had a chance of playing this year. I do not blame Threet for Michigan's poor performance last year given that Rich Rod did not adjust play calls to the style of quarterback Michigan actually had, but Threet probably has the worst win-loss percentage of any Michigan quarterback in history. I actually think Rich Rod has been kind to Threet and Sheridan by infusing the word "competition" into who will start as QB next year. In my mind, these two guys never had a chance given their style of play and performance in the spread offense last year. Good luck, Threet. Hopefully, you'll find a team that doesn't change coaches on you again.

I guess if Threet isnt given the job somewhere, he transfers. He must not like competing for anything. Forcier is the future at QB for Michigan.

As are you.

Good move by Threet. He wasn't going to play any way. Michigan will struggle again with a freshman QB but they s/b improved. They have an easy non-conference schedule and the Big Ten will be down again (deeper, but no great teams).

Hopefully they will make a bowl in 2009.

February 16, 2009  12:50 PM ET

And the revolving door at Michigan continues..... Sheeeesh

February 16, 2009  01:02 PM ET

this guy is really getting the college experience. First geogia tech, then michigan, now hes going somewhere else.

It would not be a sixth year of eligibility; he still would have only used two years and he has two years remaing. But I thought he was foolish to leave GA Tech, because coach Johson uses a spread type offense and go to Michigan with Rick Rod.

February 16, 2009  01:14 PM ET

I could be wrong but I thought he transfered before RR got the job. I don't think the kid is stupid enough to leave one spread offense for another if he is not that type of QB. Life lessons ...
