09:51 AM ET 06.30 | Friday's announcement that the NHL salary cap has increased more than $6 million is terrific news for the Red Wings, who have the flexibility to push their payroll against the ceiling. Based on talks general manager Ken Holland has had with Dominik Hasek's agent, Ritch Winter, it's apparent Hasek is going to cost quite a bit more than the $750,000 base pay he made last season, perhaps around $2.5 million. That would leave about $11.5 million to lure back Mathieu Schneider and Todd Bertuzzi, the Wings' top choices to fill vacancies on defense and up front, along with other additions.
