Bengals want Coles to replace Housh

T.J. Houshmandzadeh's two little girls forecast the future Friday when they were presented with tiny No. 84 Houshmandzadeh jerseys in Seahawks colors upon their arrival via Paul Allen's sea plane. Their daddy said yes to Seattle on Monday and goodbye to a Bengals team he leaves as the third-most prolific receiver ever. "Nothing is going to change," Houshmandzadeh said Monday. "I'm going to line up with either one guy in front of me or two. I'm going to run the route and I'm going to catch the ball. Just like I've done and more. I guarantee it." What's guaranteed is that the Bengals are looking to replace their most consistent third-down receiver with another veteran and they're waiting for long-time Jet Laveranues Coles to fight through the East Coast snow to reach Cincinnati on Tuesday for a visit. A league source said the Bengals reached out to Coles over the weekend and he couldn't get on a flight Sunday.

Time to start supporting your local team... it would have made things a lot easier the past couple years.

I am surprised there haven't been more teams seeking out Coles. He may not have the ideal size of a #1 receiver but he is one of the top 32 receivers in the league.

I support the Colts, being the home team and all, I just bleed silver and black.

Nice. I can't do that. Eagles fan living in NYG territory. I'll only watch a Giants game if they're playing another divisional opponent. The Jets however, fair game.

The recent Raiders and Colts game was a blast watching lol. Godddd how I wanted the Raiders to win. Was a great game though. God damn Wayne and his hands. :p

Not sure if Coles is the answer in Bengal country and he is not an upgrade from Housh, but he is not a major drop off either. Their problem isnt' really their offense, it is that they can't stop anyone.

Have they given up on Ego Humogo (Ocho Cinco)? Or is he strictly comedy now?

The Bengals ended up up with the 12th ranked defense last year and the last rated offense but the problem isn't the offense? I'm a Bengals fan and the offense absolutely was the problem last year. Way to many 3 and outs. If they can fix the offensive line, resign Benson, sign Coles and draft a LT and change of pace back they'll be OK.

And the first ranked legal defense.

If T.J. is the thrid most prolific receiver in Bengals history, I'm guessing one of the two ahead of him is Chris Collinsworth...ha ha ha

If Chad plays like he has in the past then Coles is a great option. As a lifelong Jets fan I have spent the past 6 + years trying to convince myself that Coles was a legit number 1 reciever...unfortunatley, I was wrong. But when healthy, Coles is a terriffic complement to a TRUE #1 reciever but to sign him up as a #1 will leave you searching for his replacement at seasons end (or earlier).

collinsworth was pretty damn good

you have to pay your horses....the bengals missed their window

Coles is done. He's a gutsy little receiver, but he has had too many concussions and other numerous injuries. The Bengals are making a serious mistake in persuing him, but what else is new.

March 3, 2009  10:12 AM ET

Collinsworth was good, but I can't stand him on NBC!!!

March 3, 2009  10:23 AM ET

Coles is not the player you might think and he has a big mouth. At this point he's probably a good 3rd receiver and at best an ok 2nd. He's always hurt, has alot of drops and is always complaining about something. BIG mistake for the Bengals

Collinsworth looks like a used car salesman. I swear, everytime I see him on NBC or any other network for that matter (the guy has about 50 jobs), I feel like he's gonna give me a "great price" on an '85 Buick LeSabre. He's a dousche.
