Rutgers dismisses WR

Rutgers' already depleted wide receiver corps took a major hit Tuesday when the school announced that it dismissed Dennis Campbell from its football team for a violation of team policy. The junior wide receiver played in 35 games for the Scarlet Knights. He had 25 receptions for 307 yards and a touchdown in his career. Along with speedy wide receiver Tim Brown, Campbell was expected to be one of the main components of the Rutgers offense for the 2009 season as it looks to replace the record-setting Kenny Britt, who had 87 receptions for 1,371 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and three-year starter Tiquan Underwood, who last season had 40 receptions for 494 yards and five touchdowns.

In that picture, he looks like he was thinking of doing a "Sieg Heil" and at the last minute decided to morph it into the 1968 Olympic Black Power salute.

I didn't even know they had a football team, did they have uniforms and cheerleaders and such?

March 4, 2009  10:58 AM ET

Rutgers could use some more exposure. Don Imus, where are you?

Nah, I think they played in the Texas Bowl last year. So it must have been taken then.

I'm not hating on Rutgers, just New Jersey. Dunno about everyone else though.

March 4, 2009  01:48 PM ET

ok why do u hate on NJ ?!!? Envy perhaps?....and as far as hating on Rutgers our fans should be proud of what a turn around Schiano had made! It was a few RU students with that chant, and Teel's actions weren't half as bad as what goes down behind closed doors with players from around the country

You Rutgers folks really need to get a grip on reality. Your team is situated in probably the worst town of all time..East Pascataway?? its a hell hole . Your stadium is pathetic and resembles a closed in barn with stadium seating. I was present at the RU/USF game 2 years ago and it was sad how quiet and un intimidating your home field was. My high school's jumbo tron was larger than yours. RU is an absolute joke--your alumni couldn't even muster up the cash for a few thousand seats???

March 4, 2009  02:44 PM ET

east pascataway hmm not sure I have heard of that place.....More Jersey haters who don't have a team clue about it!

March 4, 2009  02:45 PM ET

yes florida a much better place to raise a family and get ahead in life vs. NJ....still sitting at 49/50 in education I believe right ahead of mississippi....

March 4, 2009  03:09 PM ET

East, South, North.. whats the difference? Piscataway isn't even worth discussing...none the less arguing about. Jersey Proud syndrome is just laughable as is your cute little football team who just tries so hard!! Lets just make it clear on what happens when Rutgers wins 5 or 6 games..they get sent to Montreal to play in the International Bowl. I wish Mike Teal would **** slap every one of your fans the same way he slapped his teammate...maybe that would help you guys to wake up.
