07:48 AM ET 03.09 | Alabama prep standout DeMarcus Cousins has committed to Memphis, SI.com has confirmed. Cousins originally committed to UAB, but backed out of that commitment when the school would not guarantee it would release him if coach Mike Davis left to take another job. Cousins, a 6-foot-10 center from LeFlore High School in Mobile who is considered the top big man in the country, averaged 26 points, 12 rebounds and 6.7 blocked shots this season.

AB really missed the boat on this one. Why not gurantee him a release? Why would you want to demand him stay at UAB if the guy that recruited him left? If UAB was winning championships, I could see them having that position, but let's face it, UAB needs some help in basketball to get to the next level and this kid could have done that.

Hope these recruits follow Cal to Arizona when he takes over for a legend next month

I don't think you want a guy like Calipari in Tuscon. He's a shady character. Arizona basketball deserves a stand-up coach

Totally agree. You can tell just by looking at Cal that he's up to no good. They're working on getting John Wall down there too. They'd be favorites to win it all in 2010 if he decides to commit.

And now UAB is losing other recruits. The program is devolving regardless of a 20 win season. Mike Davis said before the season this would be final four talent this year and now even with 20 wins, they aren't going to the NCAA tournament.

Tell me, how are you able to judge a persons character by the way he looks? Cal is a stand-up guy that knows how to recruite, and have learned how to coach over the last few years.

Are you kidding me? This is so typical of Memphis haters. Cal recruits like no other and he does it the right way. Since he has been at Memphis has he been in trouble for anything? Do any of you haters know our graduation rate? Look at your own programs and answer those questions.

Its funny.......Memphis is either........overrated, thugs, or cheaters. This is what Tiger nation hears all the time, and it is simply not true.

Look out america we are in the tournament again and we don't care who we play, but whoever plays us will definately care. As far as 2010........#1.

Let me get this straight, you want Calipari and his recruits to come to Arizona, but you make the above statement?

Really....."we?" If thats the case, then you should capitalize "memphis" and correct "youre." I might not be on the team, but I am a graduate of elementary school.

I never said Cal wasn't a great coach, just curious to see if anyone follows Cousins to Memphis. and you're would be the correct grammar when abreviating you are...... Whatever makes you feel better

March 11, 2009  11:16 PM ET

Cal isn't going to Arizona--especially with the class he has coming into Memphis next year. Moreover, AZ will be on probation soon.

The "you're" required the apostrophe. You did not include that in your original post.

And you base that on what?

Children, Children...especially all you haters...Sorry you can't have Cal, he wouldn't have you for sure. We prove our greatness the hard way. We aren't on probation, no allegations of bad conduct by Cal. So get over it, I know it is hard for you to let it out....But Memphis is a good team and you are just "J" your team doesn't have the raw talent and great coach..again...get over it..& give them their due!!
