Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin had some stinging last words for Alshon Jeffrey, one of the nation's top wide receivers, according to ESPN.com. Jeffrey of St. Matthews, S.C., signed with South Carolina last month after an intense recruiting battle with Southern Cal and Tennessee. According to ESPN's Chris Lowe, "Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina."

What a jerk! Kiffin is becoming the most hated coach in the country.

This guy is a friggin' buffoon. Say what you will about Fulmer, but he never made an ass of himself. And, he... at least on a direct, personal level, always represented UT with a fair amount of class.

Kiffin wouldn't know 'class' if it came up and kicked him in the nuts!

I really tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but good grief...he just keeps digging.

I know I've said it before, but at least Fulmer never made a fool of himself like this clown.

QUOTE(#1):

It's funny and scary to read how Kiffin recruits. He really is going to be a huge target and for the first time, I have to apologize to Al Davis as he most likely is right about what a **** Kiffin is. And Al would know as he's a **** and **** know ****.

I'm betting that Kiffin actually first heard the "pumping gas" comment in his exit interview with Al Davis....

Someone should tell Kiffin that pumps are now self serve, and that guys who pump gas for a living are harder to find than football players...

March 10, 2009  08:27 AM ET

Finally, my Lane Kiffin is a **** Bag fix from T&R.

Vols, I respect you enough to say you deserve better than this.

Maybe he said "Pimpin' Ass"?

March 10, 2009  08:47 AM ET

I have a bet with a buddy that Kiffin couldn't go 2 weeks without having a "foot in mouth" episode that makes the news. Easiest money I ever made...sucker.

March 10, 2009  08:52 AM ET

Classy comment. Al Sharpton would probably call it racist.

Kiffin is a gidrool.

March 10, 2009  08:55 AM ET

To date, I can't think of much that Kiffin has done right for Vols football. He bagged ridiculous contracts for himself and his assistants but I don't see much for the university or football program.

March 10, 2009  09:08 AM ET

It would be a jerk move if it weren't, you know, true.

March 10, 2009  09:13 AM ET

so far he's claimed that urban meyer used illegal recruiting tactics, he's stolen nick saban's top recruiter, he's taken a few assistant coaches from south carolina and has verbally bashed them and spurrier in the press more than once.

i'm excited to see the SEC coaches light up the scoreboard against this idiot.

for the record - south carolina has 18 players in the nfl right now, including john abraham and a lot of good DB's.

in the upcoming draft, they'll put at least 4 more in the NFL, including Jared Cook, the 2nd best TE prospect.

The ones pumping gas are the lucky ones...most are currently wearing pinstripes.

My thoughts exactly. Kiffin is definitely burning bridges.

March 10, 2009  09:24 AM ET

I'm not saying whether it's true or not but a good reply would have been...

"So, you're saying I'll be better employed if I go to South Carolina over Tennessee?"

March 10, 2009  09:29 AM ET

You have to wonder if this guy was actually stupid enough to say what is alleged. If he didn't say it the shame or thought of saying it will be enough to create a firestorm that he will never be able to get over. To me this is a typical case where somebody got a job that he was not quite able to handle all the aspects that go with it.

He better win a lot and win quickly
