USC forward Leonard Washington was held out of practice Tuesday because of an academic issue. Washington missed a tutorial session and Coach Tim Floyd said he would determine today whether Washington would play against California in the Pacific 10 Conference tournament Thursday. Floyd wouldn't speculate whether Washington would be available Thursday, saying, "He knows what he needs to do. I've said all I can say."

We don't mean to pry, but are a graduate of UT? As in did you pass you English classes? Are you a student-athlete?

But if you are going to pump gas you will need to speak some regional dialect of English. Let's see you squeegee skills before we get too far.

Excuse me, grammar police, but "we" incorrectly lambasted me with such nuggets as "...but are a graduate of UT?", "As in did you...", "...pass you English classes?", and "athlete?." You also began a sentence with a conjunction (but). I did quite well in my English classes en route to my degree from UT. "Shoulda went" sounded much better to me than "He should have attended." "We" are, however, correct in that I pump gas. Only I pump it at the self-serve every few days on my way to my job. For future reference, to "squeegee skills" actually means to wipe them away, as I have just done to all of you.

The previous post shoulda read, "...on the way to my job." My apologies, guys.

Wow. I just got torched for typos by Jethro!

OK, so you're a college graduate and you were making a joke about the bad grammar of FSU applicants (perhaps?). Forgive my myopia, to me UT = Peyton Manning and that's a great man with a degree who will be successful after he leaves the NFL. I believe good things are happening down there. I'm a damn Yankee who secretly loves the South. Sorry to ruffle your feathers so much.

And when you take advance English classes you learn it's good to vary your sentence pattern and start with conjunctions from time to time.

I know football is very important to you, so I'll add that my college football team couldn't beat your family reunion. You'll notice that I didn't ask how large your family is. At your games you pray for 3rd down conversions and blocked field goal attempts. I pray for long lines and the concession stands. Enjoy your life sir.

You called me out on my grammar, sir. If you're going to play grammar police, at least check your own before you post. Then you hurl a derogatory slur at me based on the university I graduated from. I could go there with your obvious Aztec heritage, but I am above that.

The joke I was making was referring to FSU's recent scandals of giving student-athletes grades, which apparently is not a practice at USC. Don't jump into a conversation if you don't know the subject. Also, you brought UT into this, not me. We are, however, much more than Peyton Manning. As for ruffling feathers, ask Huitzilopochtli's father abot that.

I don't know where you received your "advance English," but I never knew varying sentence patterns included misspelling and omitting words. Tell me, what fine institution do you attend? Starting with conjuctions is ok in a literary sense, but so is using a word like shoulda.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

I notice you have over 2000 posts in less than 3 months. At least I have a life, sir.

I can't take this any more. You're just a box of rocks brother.

HE should have GONE to FSU. Not WENT.

How hard is that! This is grammar school level grammar! We've been discussing it for two days! I'm not a grammar cop. I just speak formal English. You tout your English qualifications and you can't get past this.

For god's sake. How did you get a college diploma? Is it based on attendance or the amount of tuition paid?

"We are, however, much more than Peyton Manning." Absolutely. You didn't understand what was written. But for Heaven's sake, if they are handing diplomas out to semi-literates like you then apparently they are also the community college of Tennessee.

The Aztecs are extinct! Columbus, 1492, am I ringing a bell? You said "Don't jump into a conversation if you don't know the subject" yet it seem like you jumped into life without knowing basic English, history and probably math and who knows what else.

UT produces many outstanding scholars. UT produces many outstanding athletes. UT elevates the educational level the local population and spurs development and improves society. The faculty at UT may not feel that you are the ideal representative of the University.

I'm certain you are a wonderful neighbor and a good citizen and a good parent and are an important part of the community. I know it's important to you to appear to be educated. But a battle of wits is not where you want to contest your valor sir. Try arm-wrestling or thumb wars or horse shoes.

columbus didnt whipe out the aztecs my friend, nice attempt at trying to sound like a history major. Hernan Cortes is primarily responsible for killing off the aztecs.

OK. So you missed school they day they taught history too I see. The Aztecs are EXTINCT. The EUROPEANS were a driving force in the extinction. Columbus was the first EUROPEAN. I don't have time to connect the rest of the dots. Wikipedia had great summaries that I am sure you will enjoy.

Your car looks real purdy. Stick with that and the horse shoes and my school woulda whupped you ifn that durn penalty been called right. You're embarrassing yourself.

i respect the middle easterners that come out here, they try very hard to contribute to this country, as a majority, latinos do not.

i've gotten an A in every history class i've ever taken, so i dont need you to connect the dots.

killing off=extinct

im just saying the way that you stated the topic you made it sound like columbus was the one who tried to exterminate the aztecs when in reality he thought he landed in india when he got to the new world.

Interesting observation. I wonder why we have such divergent views of the Latino community? I only travel SoCal infrequently, but do speak Spanish and so converse at length. I hear over an over that they have suffered to come here and they suffer being here to support family and most would prefer to be home. Do you have any friends who speak Spanish as a first language?

i have a few, my best friends father is a self made millionaire by age 22, who came here at 15 and started out with a cart selling tacos, made a few friends, that turned into 3 taco carts, they saved enough to start a store, el toro market, that nets 30 million a year, i respect anyone who comes to this country legally, as he did, and he learned to speak english, because at the time there was no "press 1 for spanish, press 2 for english" bulls*it. the government has got it twisted, they reward these people by letting them stay here, when they come illegally, they take jobs from middle and lower class families, and as a police cadet, i have found that many of the criminals on top 10 wanted lists in cities all across california are illegal immigrants who came here, killed someone, or whatever the case was, and fled back to mexico, (best example is look at the LAPD top 10 wanted list) it just drives me nuts that these people will never be punished for destroying lives, yet our government chooses to do nothing to address the situation. not to mention emergency rooms, and other things that are funded by tax dollars are closing left and right because these illegal immigrants who dont have insurance expect our hospitals to deliver their babies, but they dont pay for it, and its **** up. im not saying we need these people deported, but i think that we need to make sure each and every one of them is registered so that we know how many are here, who the are, etc. and not to get off topic, but if these people can sneak across the border so easily, then who knows how many terrorist cells have snuck in to the country and are just waiting for that call to set off a dirty bomb, or another hi jacking.

why do they say they are here if they are suffering though? perhaps their POV could change my take on things.
