FSU's trouble hurting recruiting

The P-word is scaring some of Florida State's top recruiting targets. "FSU is not as high as they were with me because of probation," said Newnan safety Alec Ogletree, who is considered Georgia's No. 1 prospect with 33 early offers. "Florida State was my childhood favorite. I'm still open to them. I'm just not sure about getting involved with any program on probation. We'll just see how it all plays out." "Florida State dropped down a lot with me because they got in all that trouble," said Loganville tailback Storm Johnson, who has 10 offers. "They have a great program, but I don't think I want to be any part of that." According to the AP, Florida State's athletic program received four years probation from the NCAA and will lose scholarships in football and may have to forfeit games because of a widespread academic cheating scandal involving all 10 sports.

Trying to keep up with Florida and then this...Not good.

The penalties were a joke, and Bowden will figure out a way to smooth it over with recruits. If the NCAA had any 'tea bag' at all, FSU would have received a bowl ban, TV ban, and/or conference championship ban. Losing 6 schollies over 3 years is merely a slap on the wrist.

BTW - Urban Meyer and Florida were going to own FSU with or without the recent penalties.

Coach should just retire....he will have a great gig appearing as Sheriff Buford T. Justice at auto shows and other types of happenin's

Bobby's boys now have to do their own school work now and can not have other people do it for them. So Bobby needs now to go out and fine players that can read.

I'm not surprised about the probation. Bobby is renowned for playing players who should be disqualified or in jail. He has done it multiple times in his history with Free Shoes U. Gee, it will be hard for my Gators to get fired up about playing the girls from FSUeey.

Makes you wonder about that Rhodes Scholar, don't it..

......or FIND players that can use proper diction.

I don't see why it would afeect their recruiting too much. They still get to go to bowls and get on TV and play for the NC, if that were to come up.

I would think the senility of the coach would be more of a factor. (JUST KIDDING! or am I?)

March 11, 2009  12:13 PM ET

Does anyone believe that FSU can go four unders (under probation) without committing another offense? FSU epitomizes all that is wrong with college athletics. This is a win at any cost program.

yeah, it is impossible to keep up with Florida when they dont ever get caught

March 11, 2009  12:29 PM ET

They'll have to give up two football scholarships this recruiting season and one the following year.

Actually, given the type of recruits they target, I'm a bit surprised.

OK, throw your beer cans at me guys.

The cheating took place in football, baseball, softball, basketball, swimming, track and field, and golf. You'd think at least the golfers would be smart enough to do their own work.
