08:33 AM ET 03.14 | The Tennessee Titans were on the verge of completing a trade for St. Louis Rams wide receiver Torry Holt yesterday, sources close to the situation informed the National Football Post. The NFP has also learned that the deal between the Titans and Rams fell through because Holt refused to restructure his current contract. Holt's refusal not only caused the potential trade to fall apart, but also led to his release from the St. Louis Rams earlier today.

im sure he wont get signed for the value of the contract he had, but somone will pick him up for a little more than the league minimun. id say around $1 mil a yr is pretty fair for him.

March 14, 2009  09:02 AM ET

Not much more than that.

March 14, 2009  09:17 AM ET

He'd be a great addition as a vet who could work with a young corps.

March 14, 2009  09:17 AM ET

I'm sure he refused the trade so he could go wherever he wanted instead of TN.

im sure he wont end up where he "wants" per se, but he will have some more leadway in deciding where he'll end up

Now every other team gets to bid. We will find out which team wants him the most. I agree with Eazeback in that the price will be less that Holt wants.

He is now in the driver's seat as far as which team to go to (Carolina?). Can you really blame any player for not restructuring their contract when they know it is simply to complete a trade.

I think he is still a value FA, worth more then league min. He had 8 consectutive 1000+ yards seasons until last season (and they REALLY sucked!). I'd give a solid 2 - 4 years with the right team (most of those 1000+ yards).

March 14, 2009  10:34 AM ET

he'd be a better leader for the youngsters on the G-men than Plax

March 14, 2009  10:37 AM ET

Here's where Jerry Jones comes in and scoops him up. Sneaky mofo I tell ya, you heard it here first. As much as I hate the cowboys something tells me this will be tuesdays headline.

i sure the heck hope double j doesnt scoop him up. im not interested in having this guy even for only a mil a yr. i think he's going to be injured again and miss considerable time in the future

March 14, 2009  10:47 AM ET

You've got to imagine that Holt knew that he wasn't going to see all the money of that back-ended contract. This move was likely more about Tory Holt deciding his own future. Someone will give him an incentive laden, two year, five million dollar contract that's voidable after year one and includes no roster bonus so if he proves to be "less than healthy" they can cut him virtually for free.

I don't see that Jerry Jones has the ammo. On the other hand, the Giants do and should swoop in on this possibility. Opportunities like this don't happen every season. C'mon Giants, do your business and get off the pot. You're burning daylight.

Sorry, thought this was the Boldin thread. Still, the concept is valid. Throw Plax in the dumpster and make a move. A WR to stretch the field is just what you need.

Yes, but he wouldn't produce anywhere near Plax numbers. To think that he'd replace plax is moronic. He's just not that good anymore.

How does a 33 year old WR with bad knees "stretch the field"???
People fall in love with athletes names but fail to realize that they aren't the same player they used to be. That's the case here,,,Holt is NOT a #1 recieve anymore, that's pretty obvious.

I agree that he is not the same as he was as a younger player. That being granted, what would your alternative be to replace Plaxico Burress? Can you seriously count on him? Look at how things turned out for the defending SB champs when the idiot shot himself. Both Boldin and Holt are merely short-term solutions. The window for SB trophys is quite narrow. The question is: Do you take a chance or watch things pass you by?

I understand taking a chance, but what's the point of replacing a number 1 reciever with a #2 or 3 WR? He's not Plax. The purpose of Plax is to draw double teams (Holt does not) and use his height and go up for passes when Eli has to toss it up(Holt cannot). Holt isn't a replacement for Plax, and to think that having him on the roster will change any of the problems that Eli went through the second half of last year just isn't right.

I agree with what Plax brings to the table, part of the crux of my argument was the struggles the Giants had once he was placed on IR (with a self-inflicted gunshot wound). The main point I am trying to make is that this obviously brain-impaired individual cannot be counted on. What use is his talent when he is so stupid as to cause a season ending injury to himself in a NYC night club?

The Giants need to move on. The have a great defense and a strong running game. They need a downfield threat. Even if it is a short-term solution. Something to give opposing defenses pause. Otherwise, as we have seen, defenses are going to crowd the line of scrimmage. Time is short, the GM Reese is smart enough to realize that. Plax will be cut, and another will take his place. I do not see any other realistic possibilities for the NY Giants.

He really could help the Vikings out alot. Holt would make our some what average QBs like alot better

His numbers dipped, for the first time, last year. Most likely because the Rams are a garbage franchise.

He's only 32 years old. Star wide-outs normally play quality ball until age 35. Definitely worth a second chance with a better team.
