09:51 AM ET 03.15 | Packers President Mark Murphy said at Saturday's Fan Fest that the Packers don't plan to retire quarterback Brett Favre's No. 4 jersey this season. "Obviously we will do it," he said. "We've made that commitment. He deserves to have his number retired. I just think both sides need some time. Quite honestly, from a practical standpoint, we've had to cancel one retirement ceremony already. I think it's smart to make sure he is retired rather than going through a situation like that again." The Packers planned to retire Favre's jersey last September, but the quarterback came out of retirement and was traded to the New York Jets. He announced his retirement from the Jets last month. Murphy didn't rule out extending an offer for a personal services contract to Favre. The Packers reportedly offered Favre a 10-year, $20 million deal last summer before the quarterback decided to come out of retirement.

Truthful and classy, both sides do need some time to heal, especially with the fans. All will be forgiven but give it another year so it's not being forced upon Brett, the Packers, or the fans.

Who cares? Most over-rated, over-media-hyped player in NFL history. 1 championship for the Packers... 13 years ago. Wisconsinites and the media dorks forget Starr won five in the 60s! Yeah he played a long time without getting hurt, which is incredible. But the DRAMA around this guy MUST END!

Egos on display. With 'management' like this, it becomes a little clearer why Favre 'only' won one Super Bowl. Murphy must be holding SOMETHING over the heads of Green Bay else why would they put up with him? His winning record?

Because 'management' made him throw interceptions? Enough to hold the all time interceptions record? LOL, whatever.

Most over-rated, what are you smoking. He is one of the greatest qbs of all time. Does he need to stay retired, yes. Should he of retired last year, yes. But over-rated is just an ignorant comment.

I am a long time Packer fan, went to old City Stadium in years gone by. Without a doubt Favre is the most exciting player in Packer history that I've been witness to. He deserves to have his number retired. I do think waiting a year is good. I appreciate the honesty, what would you say? Maybe Favre only won one Championship, but they were contenders often. Plus the times are different, not only for players, but coaches, in particular. One has to ask would Lombardi have been as successful in times when players make megabucks and egos are part of the business. The biggest thing Favre contributed beside down home leadership was possibility. Every time he got his hands on the ball anything was possible and he would make something happen, even if it was an interception, it might be a long touchdown. It was gambling at its most excellent level.

I think this is fair. Since Brett can't stay retired, his number can wait. I think a minimum of 2 years without playing would be fair, just to be sure.

I say wait until he's dead.

You know some day he'll be 75 years old and requesting to play another season.

Al Davis will bring him to the Raiders. Al's not going anywhere... ever.

Favre is arguably the best QB in the history of the NFL. He has only won one Super Bowl but if you look at his teams he hasn't always had the best supporting cast around. Yes the interception at the end of the Giant game was his fault and as far as the fool who said that he has the most interception record, what else does he have? Oh yea I forgot. Most wins and most touchdowns. Plus the consecutive starts record. Fitzroy I will be willing to bet that you support a that has never had a QB to be recognized and is as good as Favre has been. The retirement oh his number should wait till next year when EVERYONES ego is healed, yes there are people who have egos as big or bigger than Favre...COUGH COUGH Ted Thompson and Mark Murphy. But it will come and it should.

Hahaha.

This is hilarious.

I heard a rumor that Farvre's #4 jersey is contemplating playing one more season

ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre just threw another interception. NFL Live will have a two hour show devoted to how this could happen.
