Tiger on schedule for Masters

08:29 AM ET 03.16 | Tiger Woods kept saying he got better and felt stronger every day. Woods' scoring - rounds of 71-70-68-68 for an 11-under-par 277 total and a quiet piece of ninth place - supports the claim, for the most part, in a mathematical sense. Actually, though, he did happen to look better and stronger as the tournament wound down. "I'm very happy with the way I played. I didn't say the way I finished," Woods said. "I hit the ball a lot better than the score indicates." That was a glimpse of the subdued frustration Woods frequently exhibits when he's whole and dangerous. He didn't put any of it on display early in the tournament despite his pre-event insistence that he was "ready to win." No, he wasn't. Not even when he struck the ball as well as he did. He might have been "ready to win" had he played himself into contending position, but that never happened. Because there's something to be said about being tournament tough. "This was a big week for me," Woods said. That's revealing in and of itself. He finished eight shots off Phil Mickelson's pace. When does Woods ever call a week big when he "wasn't in a position to win" and wasn't ever part of the trophy chase? Making a serious run at the $1.4 million first-place prize might have afforded Woods an opportunity to make a more stringent examination of his current situation, but he might also have been tempted to push too hard too quickly. The song doesn't say the road leads to South Florida, after all. It's all about getting ready for the Masters next month in Augusta, Ga., and that's what the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando at the Bay Hill Club will be about in a couple of weeks, too, at Woods' next stop.

From what I saw of him at Doral, it didn't look like he lost any of his petulance.

And that would be one of the easiest things for him to work on.

Is anyone else tired of seeing tiger say "I played better than my score indicates"? That is called whinning. Every golfer on every round ever played since the game was invented has putts that they thought should/could have gone in. Every round has shots that were not executed how the player wanted. I think it is condescending when he says that he only had his B game, like he is diminishing the accomplishment of the players that finished ahead of him. The same could be said of the next player that finishes 2nd to Tiger - I can hear it now "if only I had brought my A game I would have beat tiger by 3 shots"

Maybe that's why we're all struck on the previous dallying about the potty trots.

Tiger's not the only one who has said that but, you're right, he does say that alot.

At least he's proven that he's got most of his game back and at this early in the competition he's faired better than I expected.

I'm glad that Phil is blossoming now into more of a complete player. At least he can get off of the tee box in good shape which is more than he could do the last couple of years.

I'd just like to see the clowns who put together the rankings taken out behind the barn and slapped around for ten minutes.
