05:35 AM ET 03.17 | North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson will have to show his coach that he can practice before he commits to letting Lawson play Thursday. Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said Monday that Lawson "has to practice half the practice Tuesday and all the practice Wednesday, or I'm not going to play him," when the Tar Heels face No.16 seed Radford in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Ol' Roy wrote some rules down.....

They could MAYBE risk sitting him against Radford and letting him heal some more.. but anything can happen in the tournament so you really want to be running on all cylinders every game.

First round = ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Second Round = Upset to LSU

First round is definitely not a sleeper. I think the first round is the most exciting because of all of the games happening, the upsets, the potential Cinderellas moving on. The first day of the tournament is by far the best.

No Lawson, no chance of UNC title. Its that simple. UNC can win without Senior Wide Eyes, but without Ty Lawson at 100% or darn close to it, their goose is cooked. It'll only be a matter of time before they are out of the dance.

I don't think Roy should say such a thing, you don't want to risk re-injuring that kid's foot. Giving him an ultimatum might pressure him into playing prematurely and then you'll end up not having him for the whole tourney. They don't exactly need Lawson against Radford so if he doesn't play in the first round...no big deal.

I hope Roy makes which ever decision is the worst for UNC. Go Blue Devils!

Gomer Pyle said it best, 'surprise surprise, surprise'.

GO HUSKIES!

Of course if the first game sleeper somehow becomes close in the 2nd half, then I'll play him.
What a Coach!

it doesn't really matter, UNC isn't going all the way, with or without him....

March 18, 2009  02:28 PM ET

let him sit the first round and let him play the rest of the tournament

March 18, 2009  03:16 PM ET

UNC will make it out of this first weekend without Lawson. He'll be back next week for the Sweet 16.

i think he should not play more than 15 mins vs butler or lsu. sitting him against radford is prudent, but he should be suited up against radford and ready to enter the game if the team goes into major meltdown.
