Why Bucs or Jets are most likely to land Cutler

05:55 AM ET 03.18 | The Bucs are veterans in the chase for Jay Cutler, having pursued him the day before free-agency began, dangling their first-round pick plus something in a package for Cutler. They also have an offensive scheme under new coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski that resembles the system Mike Shanahan ran in Denver, and a defensive coordinator, Jim Bates, who's the father of Cutler's offensive coordinator last year in Denver, Jeremy Bates. Cutler and Jeremy Bates were close, and those close to Cutler believe the Broncos' decision to not retain Bates is a part of his dissatisfaction. The Jets proved last year they'll stop at nothing to get what they want. What they wanted last year was Brett Favre, who turned out to be a one-year fix that cost New York its third-round pick in the 2009 draft. What they'll want this year would be, they hope, a 10-year fix, and would cost far, far more. Owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum will not be intimidated by the price for Cutler. I think New York, at the end of the day, will be tempted to pay more for Cutler than anyone else.

Wait a sec, didn't the next T&R say he wasn't getting traded? They are both SI articles. Who didn't get the right memo.....

Note to SI, you shouldn't put your own articles in the Truth & Rumors section if you want credibility. Leave that to the NY Post.

I can see the jets making a strong push for him if he is available.. going into the season with Clemens or Ratliff would be horrible. That being said.. i do not see how the Broncos can just make this trade for draft picks and not expect some quarterback in return and i can't see either option the Jets have as being any kind of a QB the Broncos would be interested in

March 18, 2009  06:33 AM ET

I think the Jets would be a good fit for him... he can't play any worse then Favre did at the end of the season.

Yeah really, bad enough that there are multiple threads a day bout Cutler, now they're in direct conflict. Let it end

I'm thinking that the Bears should be all over this... they haven't had a QB with the skill level of Cutler since.... I don't know if they have ever had a QB as good as him...

Cleveland should trade Quinn for Cutler.... Cutler is proven, Quinn is not.... and the Bronco's would probably go for it...

March 18, 2009  08:08 AM ET

Here's another idea... Arizona trades Leinart for Cutler.... cut Warner (saving $$) and sign Boldin long term...

Can you imagine having Cutler, Fitzgerald, Boldin locked up for the next several years?...

They would be unstoppable..

They just signed Warner, if they cut him it would cost $10 million against the cap

are you sure it counts against the cap?.... if it does - I bet they are regretting that...

I mean how often is there a chance to get a pro-bowl Qb at the age of 25 who is still years away from his peak - and has a rifle arm and has a all the characteristic's you want in a leader?

McDaniel's and all involved who tried to trade for Cassel should be fired... I'm guessing that Bowlen is wishing he had just kept Shanahan ....

March 18, 2009  08:25 AM ET

I am trying to figure out what would be fair market value for Leinart in a trade. The only name I can come up with is Joey Harrington.

That's funny... I don't remember Joey winning the heisman... or guiding a national championship team....

I would love to see the Cowboys trade away Romo for Cutler.

oh where would my mornings be without my daily cutler thread

unfortunately success and production in the college game means nothing in the pros. you could run off a pool full of characters who were heisman winners and amounted to nothing more than wet towels and clip board holders in the NFL.

True, but Harrington has a better pro record. They are both have QB ratings of about 69, They both throw more Ints. than TDs. ( though Harrington has thrown 79 TDs in his career to 14 for Leinhart), neither could hold a starting job in the NFL for long. Harrington does not have a video on You Tube with beer bongs and underage girls however, which could be a plus or a minus depending on what you are looking for in your QB.

March 18, 2009  08:45 AM ET

I feel sorry for any team that lands him. The management will be walking on eggshells 24x7 around him, for fear they might say something that makes him go crying to his agent.

According to one article, he was butthurt that McDaniels wouldn't guarantee he would never be traded. This is true of ANY player! He is not the exception to the rule, nor should he be. If a player starts decling in their level of play, whether it is due to injury or offensive scheme or whatever, there is always a chance they'll send you packing. For him to use that as the excuse to get out of there, is truly laughable.

Cuck Futler, this guy is a toolbag. I hope he ends up somewhere other than 3 threads per day, because this is getting old. He's a crybaby and has a losing career record. He and Brett Favre made the pro bowl, so that should show how truly invalid the "pro bowl" qualifier is. He should be backing up Jeff Garcia 'til he grows a pair.

And there goes the neighborhood... Somebody said Cowboys!!! lol j/k

I would do it in a second but the broncos would want more than a 32 yr old qb for cutler eagles would have to give up mcnabb and probably a 2nd rounder for cutler.
