Is agent to blame for Cutler mess?

10:01 AM ET 03.22 | Grown men drool in wonder at Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, as if his throwing right arm was the caboose of Jennifer Lopez or Angelina Jolie's sexy lips. Of course, we all know a grown man doesn't always think with his brain. For example: If Cutler has anything more than a Beatles haircut between his ears, our disgruntled quarterback would come to his senses and do something smart for a change. Cutler should fire Bus Cook, the two-fisted, money-grubbing agent who has Cutler wrapped around his finger like a puppet and seems to enjoy yanking the chain of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen. While earning free publicity at the expense of Cutler's good name, Cook has wrecked the working relationship between Jay-C and Denver to the point of no repair, if you're asking me. But that's not even the saddest part of this NFL soap opera. Cutler has been brainwashed by Cook to believe this 25-year-old player is far better than the impressive 4,526 yards passing and 25 touchdown passes he produced last season. Broncomaniacs are panicking with the mistaken impression Cutler's 17-20 record in Denver somehow qualifies him as a franchise quarterback to be retained at any cost. And it has been screamed new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels is doomed to failure, or should be fired on the spot, if he dares trade an unhappy camper who wants out of Denver. Well, hate to be the one to introduce a heaping teaspoon of reality to this hysteria, but Mr. Cutler is not yet the quarterback that Cook would have you or his misguided client believe.

Who knows if it's bad advice...either way, he;ll end up somewhere getting paid big dollars...and really, isn't that all that matters.

Tos say he's getting bad advice from someone is an understatement. All the talent in the world, but total hamburger between the ears.

Broncos owner disputes Cutler's agent

Good point. I believe it begins with the agent Cook. He is looking for a new contract. $47 million for six years ( almost half incentive laden)was a good deal three years ago, but he is looking to cash in before 2010. Cutler, on paper at least, is worth more if he went on the open market today. That is what this whole thing is really all about. Not the trade attempt, or the owner or the new coach. This is about cashing in while his chip is hot. Anyone who thinks differently is missing the boat on this one. Cutler is immature and impressionable, he hired Cook to do his bidding and that is exactly what he is doing. If Warner is worth 12 million a year and on and on then Cutler now feels underpaid...........And there you have it. Nothing more, nothing less.

So there is at least someone in Denver who can think straight. Too bad for Bonkos fans he works for the Post.

that 17-20 record has more to do with denver's defense than the play of culter

Remember in High School you had those bull frog floating in formaldehyde? Forgive me for violating the Sabbath, but who joins me in wanting to see (V) Jay in preserved in a giant jar of of Gerber baby food in Canton? Content with pacifier and teddy bear, to preserve our happier memories.

May God and JGirl forgive me.

Actually, I only believe in JGirl.

I'm guessing it was a bolt of lightning that did that to you head.

March 22, 2009  01:48 PM ET

I still think McDaniels could have handled this with a little more finesse.

Cutler to Patriots to back up Brady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a Mayan mask representing the passage from birth to death. Quite the rage in 950. Father was so proud when I would wear that.

Let me tell you, kids knew respect then! We had honest-to-gods virgins! None of these booty-jigglin' tattoed all-pierced-to-pieces prostitutes-in-training running the streets I see today. Quetzalcoatal would die of shame in two minutes. The manners of these teen-agers! In my day, when you were told you were getting your heart cut out at church tonight you didn't back talk!

Or were you implying a lighting strike made me want to put Jay in a gerber jar?

What a rant! You must have a daughter getting close to teen age. Take a peace pill.

What streets are those you see today? I could be packed in ten minutes.

Finally, someone at the Post realizes that Cook is behind all of this! Most of the writers and radio personalities in Denver have scoffed at that notion over the past few weeks, but they may be coming around to reality finally.

This doesn't have anything to do with this particular article, but Cook said that Bowlen promised Cutler that Jeremy Bates would stay. Bowlen said that he didn't. I have to side with Bowlen on this one. In the press conference announcing the firing of Mike Shanahan, a reporter asked Bowlen about the coaching staff. This was Bowlen's response, after saying that he had spoken with Jay Cutler: "I don't anticipate that any of the current staff will be retained."

Don Banks?? article the other day explained a lot with respect to Bus Cook strategy for getting Cutler a new contract being the same as the strategy he used with Brett Favre and the Packers. I think it's not only about a big payday for Cutler but, more importantly from Cook's standpoint, a big payday for Cook himself as he gets a sizable commission on whatever new contract he gets for his client. No big contract, no big commission. In other words, he loses money with the status quo.

The question I've asked King, Banks and Tucker (all with no response) is "to what extent does the agent control the player's destiny?". Who determines the strategy, salary demands and team selected; the player or the agent??

What do these NFL players have in common besides the fact they are / were openly unhappy with their contracts and not participating i.e. "contributing" in their teams workouts?

Anquan Boldin - Cardinals
Lance Briggs - Bears
Chad Johnson - Bengals
Kellen Winslow - Browns
Terrell Owens - Cowboys (holdout with Eagles)
Mike McKenzie - Saints (holdout with Packers)
Plaxico Burress / Jeremy Shockey - Giants
Javon Walker - Raiders (holdout with Packers)

Answer: Agent Drew Rosenhaus

(See his client list)

http://www.rosenhaussports.com/athletes.php

So does Rosenhaus have a personality test (like the Wonderlic) that he administers to potential clients to identify the a**holes that he prefers to represent? Or do his negotiating tactics and personal advice to his clients create the public perception that his clients are a**holes??

Do you think NFL GM's think it's mere coincidence that all those players were represented by Rosenhaus?? I doubt it.

I can't find peace pills at Walgreens. The clerks don't know what they are. Are they called something else. Don't look at my daughter. She turns 1 in just a few months.

I told my son about the crazy man who says Father needs peace pills. Son says man knows crazy Father needs peace pills. Son is lucky Ritual Sacrifices are outlawed.

It is like the sinking of the Maine. You need any reason to go to war, and this one suits Cutlers' agent just fine. Regardless of who fired the first shot.
