Vick planning on big NFL bucks

Michael Vick's plan to climb out of bankruptcy partly depends on the suspended star suiting up again for the NFL after he gets out of prison. The embattled Atlanta Falcons quarterback is hoping to earn as much as $10 million a year or more, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Under the plan he submitted to the court, Vick would keep the first $750,000 of his annual income over the next five years. After that, a percentage would go to his creditors based on a sliding scale. Gil Brandt, a senior analyst for NFL.com, predicted Roger Goodell would give Vick another chance to play, possibly after sanctioning him again. But he said Vick, who holds the NFL single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback, would stand a better chance of making a team at a different position such as running back.

Sorry, But anyone giving him 10 million per year should have their head examined.

No way he's get 10/year to start.

No word yet on if/when he will be allowed to play again. No idea how rusty he will be. So no team will put that kind of money out - yet. Maybe they will sign him to a heavily backloaded deal, so if he performs and stays out of trouble, he will eventually get to some larger $$. And if he doesn't, they cut him or renegotiate before the bigger $$ comes up.

Trot out "the dead horses" day.

I hope AIG has a better plan for paying the money back than Vicks representatives have.

March 30, 2009  08:06 AM ET

Good luck with that one Mike.

March 30, 2009  08:09 AM ET

hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

$10 million??.... I'd be willing to bet $10 million that he doesn't even come close to that figure...

unless he plans on re-opening his dog-killing company again and bankroll the gambling side of it...

thug.... what a loser... somebody please tell this guy to just go back to the hood...

Another day of 'As The Stomach Turns: The Mike Vick Story'.......wonder if this thread will get to 1000 comments before noon?
And who will be the first to comment about hunting and dogfighting and....blah, blah, blah?

March 30, 2009  08:18 AM ET

It's the NFL: He's got too much talent, no matter what he does, short of killing a human being, of not playing again. Like it or not, and I sure don't, he'll be back...but in what capacity? I don't see a team putting him at QB 100% of the time, but I could see them using him in a variety of positions.

Though any team that does take him will have to deal with some backlash from fans!

I'm sure McDaniels likes Vick. And the Broncos rookie coach could maybe get Champ Bailey to restructure his salary blah blah blah

Like people have already said, this guy is going to make the veteran minimum when he comes back to the NFL. Plus he won't have any lucrative endorsement deals since he's toxic from a PR standpoint. He'll be lucky to pull in $2 million a year.

March 30, 2009  08:53 AM ET

Might not last long as a RB, as recommended by article.

March 30, 2009  08:58 AM ET

veteran minimum with performance incentives..... hes got a rocket for an arm, hes the best running qb going and he has some experience and at one time put alot of fans in the seats... you cant deny his talent or the excitement he can create.... now if someone can just teach him how to be a qb hed be set.... maybe start by teaching him that a five yard pass shouldnt be thrown so hard it knocks the wr over... oakland will love him...

Vick should become a wide out. He would do better there. Less of a beating on him. I hope he is able to work out his problems.

I agree, I don't see him coming back as a QB, never really was that good and now time has passed him by some. As far as a RB, I don't see him being able to take the punishment week in and week out, doesn't seem that strong.

I don't see him getting the big bucks or lasting that long.
