Nets not guaranteeing Frank's return

Nobody's safe anymore. Rod Thorn may not be an impetuous man, but one is realistic in times such as these. Following back-to-back no-shows, and days away from officially returning to the NBA lottery for a second straight year, the Nets president wasn't exactly in the mood to issue a vote of confidence for anyone -- especially his head coach. "I can't guarantee anyone will be here," Thorn said Tuesday, when asked about Lawrence Frank's job security. "It's true. At the end of the year, we'll assess what's happened. We'll have a full assessment, just like we did last year. But I would have said the same thing last year: I can't guarantee anything or anyone on any level -- player, coach or president -- will be here." Thorn was reminded that he wasn't asked about a player or the team president, and that he was leaving a very strong inference that Frank -- the longest-tenured coach in the Eastern Conference -- won't be asked to return for the final year of his contract when the season ends in 15 days. He did not change his tone.

Too bad you can't fire players. The coach can't make the tinman Carter have heart.

From the picture it looks like Frank is dancing for joy, probably because he knows he doesn't have to return to that crappy team.

They shouldn't guarantee his return. Like I said yesterday, Lawrence Frank has gone as far as he could with this team. He's not a bad guy and not a bad coach but it's time the Nets go in a different direction.

Agreed. He didn't do too badly in his tenure as head coach. Things just slowly changed for the team. Not much he can do about the present situation.

disagree- he was really not good there
his coaching style is adjust to what other teams are doing-
instead of trying to play from his strengths & make other
teams adjust to YOU

but bottom line is bottom line
the team has been mediocre under is leadership

I wouldn't exactly disagree, but who's available that's better?

- not better of course, but-
how great would it be if they gave Patrick Ewing the job
& then they actually moved to brooklyn......
Dolan might have a coronary

Sounds good to me. Anybody in that front office would be better than what they have now.

I can't wait til Frank is gone. I can say on the behalf of the other 14 Nets fans that this is long overdue. I've met him once before, very nice guy, but unfortunately that's not a reason to remain coach. The Nets under Frank have never reached their full potential and have primarily been a mediocre team at best. I just hope Nets managment doesn't keep him in order to avoid eating his salary for next season.

Lawrence Frank's shelf life with the Nets has expired.

Maybe better was a poor choice of words as it seems there aren't any quality coaches out on the sidelines right now.

So instead of better, this team just needs someone else to listen to.

His a#$#@ willbe fired after the last game of the season. He better hope they play a home game because they might not let im back on the return home flight.

April 1, 2009  06:57 PM ET

Maybe Thorn should fire himself for dumping Richard Jefferson and getting nothing back?

April 1, 2009  09:34 PM ET

He will land on his feet , you can bet on that ...... & I am not even a fan

He looks like Doogie Howser coming back from a funeral on his make believe bike

i personally did not think he did a good job in playing the rokies, which are good pics. he is not using the nets size as an advantage. why is anderson on the bench, why is CDR not giving enough playing time until now. anderson should be use as a small forward, he is not strong enough for a power forward position, leave that to Yi. the starting lineup should be. Lopez at center, Yi at PF, Anderson at SF, Vince at SG and Devin at PG. with CDR, As the 6th man. these young player are the future Nets, let the kids play. and please can some1 tell them to release Bone, he is only hurting the team.
