Knicks almost sent Lee to Nuggets

Multiple very informed sources told HOOPSWORLD back in December that the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks discussed a trade that would have sent David Lee to Denver in exchange for Linas Kleiza. The trade was later revisited before the trade deadline with the Nuggets offering additional compensation in the form of a Charlotte's conditional first round draft pick. As it turned out, the two sides were never able to reach an agreement. But how close did a potential deal actually come to being completed? Apparently close enough for members of the Denver Nuggets to engage Lee in dialogue about the possibility of having him in a Nugget uniform prior to Tuesday's game in Denver.

Linaz is a monster but David Lee is exactly what the Nuggets need. A big man with a brain.

They should have tried the human fried twinkie on their bench Curry. That would be news worthy.

As a Knicks fan, thank god this did not happen. While Dave Lee is not a franchise player, he is a double double machine, and he does the dirty work....every good team has a player like him ( think Bowen, Horry, Posey). If the Knicks get one of the coveted big name free agents in 2010, then a really good role player like Lee would be invaluable to them.

david lee some how has made a solid NBA career. I wouldnt trade him if i was the Knicks

Isiah would have made that trade in heartbeat. Thank goodness he's gone. Lee aint going nowhere unless Curry or Jefferies is coming with him.

Yeah that's true.

I would never trade Lee for Linas.. never ever.

I could only imagine the riot at the Garden if this went down. Lee for Kleiza? Man if Walsh did this deal those Fire Isiah chanters last year would be right back at the Garden with Fire Walsh.

Look, I know it's a good likelihood that Lee is gone as a free agent this summer but he's worth a bit more then Linas Kleiza.

I guess Denver GM thinks Senile Donnie is a idiot he may be old but isn't that stupid

True......Kleiza is just a jump shooting big man and nothing else...I would compare him to matt bonner

I love how they bring up a trade that never happened two months later!!!

SPOT ON! I really believe they should make maximum effort to keep Lee, but if he must be traded, they need to get something for him.

knicks suck....next

April 1, 2009  11:50 AM ET

If Isaiah was still at the helm this trade would've been made already.

I wouldn't trade Lee for anyone on the Nuggets except for Carmelo or Billups.

the trade deadline was forever ago!!! I'm sick of this "almost" junk

Maybe its because I don't watch a ton of basketball, but who the **** is Linas Kleiza????

He is a 6'8 swing player from Europe who is fairly athletic. He is not only a shooter.
