Carroll praises Sanchez to NFL scouts

The most convincing case for Mark Sanchez wasn't made on the practice field Wednesday, but in a nearby auditorium a half-hour before USC's pro day even began. There, Coach Pete Carroll gathered all the NFL coaches, executives and scouts in attendance and gave his thoughts on each of the school's prospects. He saved his best pitch for Sanchez, to whom he gave the Siberian-cold shoulder two months ago when the quarterback announced he was leaving early for the pros. "He made a point to really go to bat for Sanchez," a scout said. "You could tell he meant it." Carroll told the group that his public frosting of Sanchez -- including the comment the player made a "bad choice" -- was meant to test his resolve, to see if he truly had his heart set on turning pro right away or if he would waffle. Sanchez didn't waver. "He told us, 'I challenged him. I wanted him to make the right decision,' " the scout said. "He said, 'I love the kid. I support him. I think he'll make a good pro.' " About two hours later, with more than 100 talent evaluators taking note of his every move, Sanchez made his own case. He threw about 80 passes in a choreographed routine, using former Trojans Patrick Turner, Jason Mitchell and Dominique Byrd for targets. The ball seldom touched the ground as Sanchez moved to throw with a breeze at his back, in his face, and from the side. Did it really matter? Some scouts said yes. They thought he sprayed his passes a bit at the scouting combine and that he needed to prove he had the arm strength and pinpoint precision required in the pros. Others weren't ready to dust off a spot for him in Canton.

This is more about recruiting than anything. Carroll got hammered for throwing Sanchez under the bus. That doesn't set well with highly rated QB's who have 3 yr aspirations. Smart move to cover those tracks.

Sure it was.

Pete: "Just kidding"
Mark: "F You"
Scouts: "Who Cares?"

These threads are getting more and more lame. Just as well, my boss is due back today, gonna have to spend more time working. Can we twist this into some kind of topless competition between Pete and Lane? Or should we just go back to Jabba, T-Rex and Fridge?

Maybe we could get Huitz to give some more of his thoughts on Title IX? Or his opinion of the Title IX man-b*i*t*c*h? Prob'ly no domers here to antagonize.

Too little, too late. You made your bed on this issue two months ago.

Just let it go, Pete. Everyone knows what really happened. We saw it play out on the tube. Now, you're just trying to rehabilitate your image because you took such a hit.

Guy probably can't get any high school QB recruits to return his phone calls. He may have just ****ed himself over big time in the recruiting arena.

JRM74 - speaking of QB recruits, and since you're a longhorn, have you checked out the kid Texas is bringing in this year Garrett Gilbert? Dude threw for over 12K yards in high school. Played in both pro-style and spread offenses. He looks phenomena.

You guys are out of your minds. You think Pete effed himself in the area of recruiting??? Would not know it by our lastest class. Trust me, if Pete calls your house you take it. We will just keep on rolling.

If Pete calls my house, I ask him to rip his shirt off to prove it.

Would seem to be Colt's heir apparent. Do you know anything about any of the incoming RB's? Another top notch running threat to draw attention away from Colt, considering his receivers and OL, his completions might go above 90%.

C'mon, dude. The point of this thread is to bash on other teams and their coaches. Dissing Carroll is tough enough without someone like you pointing out that we're full of crap.

............ But I really enjoyed Pete's last NC game.

Where's Huitz? And how did someone from New Mexico, land of 10,000 lakes, become a football fan? Or even learn that there was a game called football?

Yep. Major damage control.

Yeah right. And Bill "did not have s.*.x. with that woman Ms. Lewinsky",

They only brought in one RB for 09. Chris Whaley. Big bruiser with speed. Over 6" plus and some 225 lbs. They are recruiting for 2010 one of the top backs in country (L. Seastrunk) who appears to be an LSU lean but he is very tightlipped and says he won't decide until NSD.

As of now Cody Johnson would start according to Mack but V. McGee is progressing. Probably RB by committee like 08.

Isn't Minn. the land of 10,000 lakes? New Mexico is the land of 10,000 acres of sand and dust.
