Why top recruit may pass on Jayhawks

Lincoln Star Lance Stephenson has said repeatedly that he will end up at one of three places in the fall: Kansas, Maryland or St. John's. But with yesterday's official news that John Calipari has left Memphis and is headed to Kentucky, that list could change. Xavier Henry, who chose Memphis over Kansas and signed with the Tigers in November, asked for his release from his letter of intent yesterday. If he ends up choosing the Jayhawks, it may have an impact on whether Stephenson goes to Kansas, because they are similar players. Both were in Miami last night, playing in the McDonald's All-American Game. Stephenson scored 12 points for the East team, who won 113-110. Henry scored 16 for the West.

so.

sounds like a win win for KU

Good point Riddy! We will take either one.

So Stephenson's hometown paper "says" that Stephenson may pass on the Jayhawks. This is the same thing that Alonzo Mourning basically said last night during the broadcast of the game. It's all conjecture. What inquiring minds want to know is.......what does Stephenson say? Parroting what you've heard someone else say on TV does not necessarily mean that there's news to report.

If the kid could get in....he would be at Syracuse. But he can't get in.

LMAO. St. John's isn't exactly dumbsville, though.

Anyway, I'm tired of these kids and this announcement bull it's gone on long enough.

Lance Jr. and more importantly Lance Sr. isn't saying anything. Either way this is a win-win for Kansas because it's either Henry or Stephenson going to the Jayhawks and both of them are star players.

Every player I saw last night was impressive, some extremely so. Lance was no exception. Kids nowdays have such good offensive skills and athleicism.

The disaffected thank you sir.

I did not like the way Lance carries himself on the court. He is talented, but needs some work with his ball handling and rebounding. He is athletic, but can definitely use a good coach like Bill Self to mold him. However, Gary W. will do an even better job with him as UMD needs a strong off guard.

I was really impressed with John Henson, UNC has struck gold in last year's class and in this one.

Got to agree. If things work out to plan we could have seen one of those rare star classes that McDonalds games tend to have from time to time.

I did like what I saw out of Lance and to be honest he won't go wrong by going to Kansas or Maryland. If he wants the big time and TV exposure he would be better off leaving New York and St. Johns in his rearview even if it pains me to say that.

Because even though we are considered the "media capital of the world" the school has become a bit of an also-ran in the Big East. He would be loved by students, and fans alike but that doesn't exactly translate to ESPN and CBS television time.

April 2, 2009  04:44 PM ET

Screw it, I'm an alumnus but let me tell the truth. It's not an also-ran. We're just above Rutgers, South Florida, and DePaul as the lowest of the low.

Maryland, my Maryland

Who is the kid who scored on a 360 spin move when the defender cut him off, and where is he going to school in the fall? I forgot his name already!
