Lemaire's Wild return may hinge on Gaborik

06:58 AM ET 04.02 | Whether Jacques Lemaire returns to coach the Wild next season could depend on whether the team is able to re-sign free agent Marian Gaborik, knowing that a healthy Gaborik this season would have meant at least five more points in the standings. And those five points likely would secure a playoff berth.

Gabby is made of glass.

Lemaire isn't a good coach.

My God! Are the Tame ever boring to watch.

April 2, 2009  07:38 AM ET

Thank God! The Tame aren't going to make the playoffs. Of course, if they did, they would never see the second round.

Jacques Lemaire is one the best defensive minded coaches in the NHL. The only problem is that his style doesn't produce offence, and because of that, Marian "My Ankle, My Wrist" Gaborik won't return. Nor will Minnesota ever attract any offensive stars. If you can score, and you can wheel... why would you want to play in a smothering Neutral Zone Trap? I'll bet you Gaborik asks himself that all the while he is sitting on his coach with his band-aid.

This guy is never healthy

I feel bad for someone if their future employment rests on gaborik's "health"

Good defense translates to good scoring opportunities. Many offensive stars do not do defense. Look at Datsyuk and Zetterburg, both are offensive stars but play a tight defensive game also. Sometimes you have to give up personal goals for the good of the team. Even Hossa is playing a tight defense this year.

I don't think that's always the case. It really depends on the lineup, (duh!)
When you look at Minnesota's line up, they don't really have anyone that worries you, as Detroit does. Let's face it, you always have to have say...Hossa's scoring ability in the back or front of your mind.
Minnesota? Not so much of an issue

There is no way Gaborik signs with the Wild if Lemaire is the coach. Which would leave me to believe that Lemaire will not be back next year! Which will hopefully make watching a Wild game bearable again.

This is true also. And who gets the players? Doug Risebrough has done a terrible job as GM. He signs all the wrong players for way to much money.

Very true!! Risebrough does not get nearly enough heat for putting together a team full of 3rd and 4th liners. With that said I think it is time for the Wild to make a major change. Get rid of both Lemaire and Risebrough and try to get at least one or two more 1st liners to play with Gaborik (if you can convince him to stay) and Koivu

Is there anything in life you like or at least appreciate?
Gee, it's gotta be hard remembering all these things to hate every morning when you wake up!

April 2, 2009  11:55 AM ET

I really don't think Gaborik will be back if Lemaire stays. Since Risebrough's commitment to Lemaire is clear, Gabby will go to UFA-land.
I really started to like the consistency of the Wild these past seasons starting in goal with the underrated Backstrom. Bt there's nothing I dislike more than the refusal to evolve and adapt your game to the situation.

Hey Spiny I was on the www.freep.com web site which is a detroit newspaper. They have an article about how good bettman has been for the game of hockey. With your rhetoric on this man maybe you could visit the site and explain how great this man actually is. I tried but don't seem to have the same passion as you do for the subject.

This is the Detroit free press web site

April 2, 2009  04:44 PM ET

this is a terrible article. gabby probably won't be back but lemaire will and neither events are going to have anything to do with eachother. lemaires a pretty good coach and he'll be able to win with the style the play regardless is gabby is there or not
