How Giants can replace Burress

08:35 AM ET 04.04 | Giants GM Jerry Reese has been a staunch supporter of the young crop of receivers he has assembled, but there's no way he can be confident going into battle with Steve Smith, Domenik Hixon, Mario Manningham and Sinorice Moss. There's not a No. 1 receiver in the bunch, and Reese will look to augment the talent base. His options include trading for the disgruntled Anquan Boldin of the Cardinals or the inconsistent Braylon Edwards of the Browns. Both are longshot moves, but unquestionably worth exploring. The Giants already have inquired about Edwards, but were unwilling to part with more than a first- and third-round draft pick. You can be sure the Giants will go after a receiver in the April 25-26 NFL Draft. They own 10 picks and don't have roster space for nearly that many rookies. The Giants have two picks each in the second and third rounds in addition to the 29th overall selection. Look for them to package picks to move up to land one of the many quality available receivers: Jeremy Maclin (Missouri) or Percy Harvin (Florida) if they move up; Kenny Britt (Rutgers), Hakeem Nicks (North Carolina) or Darius Heyward-Bey (Maryland) if they stay put.

Just try to draft someone who scored at least a 10 on the Wonderlic test, thats all I ask.

April 4, 2009  08:42 AM ET

Anybody know what Plaxico scored? I'm sure it was a negitive number.

April 4, 2009  08:48 AM ET

Nicks and Britt would be a great addition to the team. If I were the Giants, I wouldn't even bother with Boldin or Edwards. The organization has proved to be very good drafters on draft day so I would ditch the idea of a trade.

Just get another athletic gangbanger.

Seeking $10 million a year Boldin is not really an option. With Stallworth in a very dubious situation, Edwards is less likely to be on the market at a fair value price. The Browns would be putting themselves in a tough spot to move him. The Bengals Ocho Cinco is a real possiblity. The cap hit for the Bengals to trade him is half of what it would have been last year ( $4.8 million) and he had his worst year last year with only 54 receptions. Now the Bengals have Coles, they would most likely be willing to move him for pics and try to get a receiver that way. I do not think Palmer cares much for the fact he did not show for the voluntary workouts. That is the most likely deal, if there is one at all.
The Giants are just as likely to look for a TE early in the draft as a WR. Boss is nice, but not that nice and there is no one behind him. That is what I see.

Ocho Cinco with the NY media/fans would be interesting move for him or a brutal one ....and more threads for T&R

Has been an interesting off season and will continue to be. Oh, the suspense of it all.

as much as a loudmouth Johnson is-
he is NOT an off-field problem child...the guy is never in 'trouble'
he's just a blowhard.....
he'd be perfect in NYC......EXCEPT
the giants need a BIG receiver who can catch Eli's wild passes
not sure if chad is the type of receiver that can do that

True, but the only receiver they have now who has even a possibility of stretching the field ( hate that cliche) is Manningham. The Tight Ends in this draft could be better than the WRs. Another way to go.

April 4, 2009  09:39 AM ET

If the Giants wait for the draft to fill there needs for a big WR.......surely the don't expect production the 1st......the NFL is never nice to rookie WR's..........50year fan might have hit with a TE instead

April 4, 2009  09:41 AM ET

Only 2 rookie wide receivers have ever gained 1,000 yards in the NFL.

April 4, 2009  09:55 AM ET

Now the Giants need 2 receivers and have no bargaining power in a trade.

April 4, 2009  09:56 AM ET

**** bonehead...too cheap to hire an off-duty cop. was prob. scared of being caught doing something illegal

they don't need to stretch the field.....
they need to catch Eli's inaccurate balls.

that's why play was so goood....there are dozens of guys that
are faster than Plax- but almost no one that can make the circus
catches that are needed for the giants Qb

A first, two seconds and two third round pics is not exactly no bargaining power.

That is why I did not name them. I cannot remember the other one either....

LOL... I am not going to let you get me into an Eli discussion. Good try though. I bet someone takes the bait though.....

April 4, 2009  10:08 AM ET

There all looking for the next Fitz. All this does is drive the market up on these college kids. Unproven commodities yet they will be very wealthy without playing a down.

Crabtree's agent must have a hard-on over this
