Eagles eyeing Ocho Cinco?

06:38 AM ET 04.08 | ESPN's Michael Smith said on NFL Live tonight that he's hearing the Eagles have interest in Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson. Rather than paraphrase what Smith is reporting, here's exactly what he said so you can decide for yourself whether this is just a rumor or something more. "I am hearing there is interest in Chad Johnson," Smith said. "Now there's been some back and forth as to whether or not he is officially on the market. I think everybody in Cincinnati has signed off on moving Chad Johnson except for owner Mike Brown. The Eagles could be in the picture. They have two first-round picks. They need a receiver." The other name Smith threw out there was Bills offensive tackle Jason Peters. Our beat guys have mentioned Peters' name in the past, and according to Smith, the Eagles have "engaged in serious discussions" with the Bills about him. Per Smith, those talks could heat up again as the draft approaches. Remember, Smith reported earlier this offseason that Donovan McNabb had met with Eagles management and wanted to see what weapons the Eagles would add before looking at a contract extension.

You'd think they learned their lesson with TO.

It would seem wise to exhaust all avenues that lead to Anquan Boldin before pursuing a malcontent. They should make reverting to "Johnson" one of the trade stipulations.

Man life's tough is Philthy...not sure Chad would want to deal with those fiiiiiiiiine fans.

That's a long time ago they forgot already. Hey we're talking the beagles here, don't expect too much

That would be awesome to see Chad go to the Eagles......That would be a bad decison along with the Cowboys....

I don't think Chad would throw the QB under the bus....

He just would throw the whole organization under.

no kidding.... anybody else had enough of these loud-mouthed prima-donna receivers who think that they have way more impact on a game than they actually do?

Owens, Ochocinco, Burress... I wish the owners woudl agree at their winter meetings to just leave these idiots out of the league...

difference is ocho cinco does funny sheet, you never here him talk bad about his qb or anything. I think he would be great for the birds seeing as it probably wouldnt take a 1st rounder to get him. Boldin seems out of the picture by now so....

I think this is a good move for the Eagles. They are in a position to win now and really don't have time to develop a drafted WR. And Jason Peters would be nice. The NFC East is full of pass rushing teams and I believe its absolutely critical to have depth on the OL.

I don't think Chad and T.O. are the same. Chad is just strange....T.O. is different.

W.T.F. They're starting to make JJ decisions.

I don't find him funny at all.... just extremely obnoxious... I think if you are going to give up alot to make a big trade, then give up a little more and get Boldin over Ocho.... Boldin is 10X the receiver that Chad is... and way way way better character...

April 8, 2009  08:44 AM ET

Peters to Philly for one of their first round picks could be a good deal for both teams. The Bills could use that pick to replace a guy who has been a pro bowl level performer but constant headache and the Eagles could satisfy Andy Reid's ongoing search for talented, huge OL and all around eating buddies while giving Peters a fresh start and, presumably, new contract.

His obnoxiousness far exceeds his talent.

This was the only comment worth reading on the first page. The others are....well you already know they have to much hate in there blood. Im not saying that they dont have valid points just what they say is so blah blah blah! But this was true, funny, and good comment.

Hey Chaser, are the Phils going to win a game this year? THey are on pace to go 0-161 (we'll skip a game due to a rainout in Pittsburgh with no playoff significance anyway). That's a full 161.5 games behind the Mets :-)

Pain exceeds gain.

Only an idiot would do this.

Joe Banner you say? Check.

April 8, 2009  09:29 AM ET

The Bengals are going after Burress. Burress, Henry, and Coles... The Dream Team!

Agreed. Ocho on a team with an actual chance to win would make him revitalized and ready to get back to his glory days. It would definitely spark this offense.

If Boldin is available that would be the move they made, no doubt.
