Miami basketball player to play tight end?

Miami football coaches asked senior basketball player Jimmy Graham to play football for the Canes next season -- they envision the 6-8, 256-pounder as a tight end. Graham, who is considering it, has good hands and played football in high school. Graham would have one season of football eligibility.

6'8"? That would simplify the offensive playbook. An 8 - 12 yard fade to the left, an 8 - 12 yard fade to the right, some kind of sweep or end around to keed opponents from blitzing on every down, and a hail Mary for third and more than 12.

Dude brings a killer low post game to the field!

April 8, 2009  10:29 AM ET

Yeah, but with a tall skinny kid at tight end, I'm gonna blitz from the strong side on 85% of the snaps.

Just pitch it up and let the kid will snag a rebound! Or throw him the old alley-oop in the end zone! I know I know not funny.

Is it me or does coach look cold in this pic...aren't they in Miami?

Really though...sorry...some of you guys just seem to like comments on how the head coach looks so I tried to oblige.

If he is cold, I guess he could ask CW at ND about how to pack on some extra cold bearing pounds.

Yeah that weight problem there in ND is an endless bag of wealth for offseason zingers.

If Graham says "yes", he better focus on the playbook and bulk up a little bit. Miami has a tough schedule. I think they are reaching a bit with this.

With our luck, they'll bulk this kid up and turn him into the next Shockey or Winslow...Ugh. Those guys just KILLED us, especially Shockey.

He's waiting for the methadone clinic to open up.

When do they train them on drinking and driving?

WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME

April 8, 2009  12:41 PM ET

Guy could do a fake end-around flea flicker. Just tell him it's a give and go play.

April 8, 2009  01:08 PM ET

Dude will be jumping up after every play claiming he was fouled!

April 8, 2009  01:30 PM ET

we are seriously hurting for TEs if we poaching the basketball team

April 8, 2009  01:45 PM ET

Yards after catch will improve once he learns that in football you don't have to dribble when you run with the ball.

You're right. It is kinda dumb that T&R uses a picture of the Miami coach shivering from the cold. This was probably taken at an away game far north of Miami. UNC? Wake? Surely not the frozen tundra surrounding Virginia Tech.

not for us, we need TE's badly, our main guy is hurt.

How long does it take to cross train these guys?

Zone: left hand of keyboard. Middle row. caps lock.

Please turn it off.

Perhaps this is the brilliant move that will push Randy Shannon out of the realm of pathetic losses due strictly to amateur coaching mistakes in December bowl games. Perhaps this is, indeed, that genius tactical maneuver that will preclude having his incompetent --- fired before Florida can, again, "help him more than any of us will ever know" by drumming him in Miami in 2013. Perhaps it is.

But methinks not.

You're high if you think FL is going to beat Miami in 2013.

Luckily for the gators, they played us last year with a RS freshman QB (marve, who sucks) playing in his first college game ever.. we threw tebow around like a rag doll, just couldnt get it done offensively (thanks to patrick nix, our old o-coord)

You do know its the first time since 1985 they beat us right?

FYI, UF is gonna suck so bad without tebow (you heard it here first)

Anyhow, with a major lack of TE's this year, its a good move for us.. we have nothing to lose.
