Chris Paul in a Mavericks uniform?

06:03 AM ET 04.10 | Picture Chris Paul in a Mavericks uniform. The thought has apparently crossed Mark Cuban's mind. Rumor has it the Mavs brass let the powers that be in the Big Easy know before the trade deadline that they'd take the Hornets' two worst contracts off their hands in a package with Paul. I'd wager the value of Paul's four-year, max contract extension that kicks in next season that the Mavericks will put on the full-court press with that proposal this summer. Acquiring Paul, a perennial MVP candidate who hasn't even hit his prime yet, and a couple of his overpaid pals would be a no-brainer basketball deal for the Mavs. For the Hornets, such a deal would make sense only because of the dollars. The Hornets are a prime example of a team that might have to make a desperate, cost-cutting deal due to the economy.

NEW ORLEANS STAFF, ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND ??? DON'T DO IT !!!
CP is the only reason the Hornets can sell tickets now, and the only reason they're making the playoffs. So why, why?? Trade Tyson Chandler(which was already a stupidity but I understand the crisis hurts everybody) but not Chris Paul, man. It would be a shame. Moreover, the Mavs don't really need a quality PG. They already have Jason Kidd and Jason Terry.

Amazing how the Dallas' blog media can come up with a nice thought for the Mavericks who've never won a title in their 29 year history but they constantly have negative blogs on the Cowboys who put the city on the map. Stupid blog, Why would they let go the guy who sells tickets? Wishful thinking. Cuban can't get it done and never will. Jones makes Cuban look like Howdy Doody himself.

This just in... The Dallas Morning News reports LeBron James has agreed to sign with the Mavericks in 2010 for the veteran league minimum.

April 10, 2009  08:35 AM ET

this is a non-story.....
no reason for anyone to get worked up.

April 10, 2009  08:40 AM ET

Wow...I can't believe any journalist would have the nerve to post such a stupid blog. Check out this link http://www.theadvertiser.com/article/20090410/SPORTS/904100303/1006?GID=Hz 8yRSZ+KKrvaFZ+bIwYpDRNmULgE8HPv1MhSb6/fFk%3D. The Hornets are selling more tickets in NOLA than they ever have. The main reason is CP3!!!!!

April 10, 2009  08:51 AM ET

This is wishful thinking.. but hey we're all free to dream.

What kind of stupid ass article is this?

There is absolutely NOTHING in the article that suggests the Hornets would do anything but laugh at Dallas for this stupid freakin offer

April 10, 2009  09:03 AM ET

yeah don't even think this is true........Chris Paul already top ten point guard of all time. Why wud u trade him?

April 10, 2009  09:03 AM ET

CP is a punk. Who else would get removed from a game for hitting an opponent in the family jewels on purpose? No matter what he does in the NBA, it will never remove that image and the fact he broke the mans code.'

April 10, 2009  09:04 AM ET

forget dallas... donnie walsh will give up the whole team and cash for paul!... but yea, back to reality.. NO doesn't trade Paul unless he demands it.... Chris Paul in a knicks uniform in d'antoni's system would be sweet paired with say, a joe johnson... one can only dream..

GO CP3!

April 10, 2009  09:08 AM ET

lets not go crazy.......lol
He's VERY good-
but lets see him play a few more years & have him accomplish
SOMETHING before we get to a debate as to him being in the
top ten of PG's all time

Everyone talks shizz about Cubes but he can make the deals happen. IF the Hornets management likes money more than wins you can bet they will do this. We all know Cubes could care less about money, thats the beauty of being a Dallas fan, theres always something new coming our way! CP3!

As ludicrous as this might sound, George Shinn is George Shinn. And the numbers involved in this deal just jump off the charts. It will save them a tremendous lot but they might well sell the team.

As for Cuban, nobody can say that he never tries. Call him crazily loud and loudly crazy but he is a risk-taker. He didn't become a billionaire because of safe and boring decisions. If he pulls this off, this will be genius. This is Chris Paul we're talking about.

Amen!
For now you have(not necessarily in that order) Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Clyde Frazier, Nate Archibald, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Bob Cousy, Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway, Pete Maravich, Mark Jackson, Steve Nash...
That already makes it 15, and I refuse to add Allen Iverson since he was only a successful PG in college, now he plays the 2, plus other PG's from the 60's that I never knew... By the way, did Big O Robertson not play point-guard at times?
Dear Chris, I luv ya so much, you a HOF-to-be but there's just as much work to do.
