Florida coach Urban Meyer jumped into the sweepstakes for Georgia's No. 1 sophomore. Tucker LB James Vaughters made an unofficial visit to Florida, and sat down with Meyer for about 45 minutes. Florida is offer No. 8 for Vaughters, who also has scholarships promised from UGA, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Clemson, Stanford, N.C. State and Central Florida.

Sophomore? Are they gonna be scouting the ****ing little leagues next? Or will they go straight to reviewing ultrasound images of promising fetuses?

Pathetic.

I agree with your statement. But to give you an idea, UT just had their spring scrimmage and hosted about 150 sophomores (Jrs. to be). Less of a recruitment and of course Mack doesn't offer anyone until after NSD for his current class.

It's getting a little crazy but you'd think commonsense tells you a stud soph or frosh could be a burnout by their sr. year. Gotta be careful how young you recruit.

It's one thing to recruit younger players, it's another to offer a scholarship.

I know about Mack's program. It's different. He's trying to get every kid in the state sold on his program so he can have his pick when it's time to evaluate and choose. Hell, he's trying to get his program visible to players at the ****ing junior high level. But to decide after a kid's sophomore year to offer him a scholorship? Hell, what if the Georgia LB turns out to be through growing? What if a hundred things that you can't evaluate this early?

I respect Urban as a coach and as a recruiter, but this move seems a little dicey. Now that I've made this statement, Texas will probably play Florida in 2013 and Vaughters will sack our QB five or six times, hold our running game to thirty yards, and pick off four passes.

A funny thing happened on the way ta college. Or maybe a Bobby Knight moment?

To shamelessly butcher an unworthy lyric, "I'm fifteen, and I don't know what I want!"

Definitely. Mack's approach is different. He never extends an offer to anyone prior to signing his current class so soph's would never receive an offer since his junior commits haven't signed yet.

What he's doing in TX is so far ahead of the curve its leaving others behind and they are starting to panic. In fact, he's killing Blow U outrecruiting him in the DFW area which used to be Zero U's homebase.

I don't like your 2013 scenario much. Cross your fingers.

At least if we play Florida, it will be a BCS bowl game.

Dude, don't provoke Cooper. He still scares the hell out of me. Now he looks like a Keith Richards zombie.

All very good comments, i just don't think you should extend such a high honor and important decision on a young kid who probably doesn't even know how to drive yet. Even at 18 some of these kids don't know what they want and rely on a good support group to help them out. I just don't think colleges need to be putting that much on a young kid when he should be worrying about studying and enjoying his youth rather than preparing for SEC football.

I dont think Gilbert would play that bad, besides Florida wont be able to hang with Texas, and you heard it here, Texas will beat Florida for the 2009 Championship!

Nothing wrong with drinking burnt orange kool-aid, but you my friend may be drunk to throw out guarantees of such magnitude.

It would sure be nice if he told the kid

"Listen, you're no good unless you graduate and keep your nose clean. Set an example. Other kids look at you. I'll be calling your teachers to make sure you go to class, do your homework and are the best behaved kid in school. Don't mess this up."

Like the coaches told me when I was in school. Before electricity.

That's why they win.

Crap! I had just about convinced myself we could take Florida next year. Now you've made me scared.

Looking at SI's link to thier swimsuit pages reminds me. I am running to become commissioner of women's NCAA sports, and I would appreciate eveyone's support. I'm convinced that women's mud wrestling and women's tennis, with thong bikini uniforms, will be monster revenue producing sports, and men's football and basketball can petition for a share of our money as a Title IX entitlement. This has nothing to do with the original thread, except that the homor is somewhat sophomoric.
