Report: Harvin's draft stock dropping

09:43 AM ET 04.12 | Louis Oliver knows just how Percy Harvin feels this month. Like Harvin, Oliver was a star at the University of Florida and was the subject of rumors about a failed drug test in 1989 that sent his draft stock plummeting. Twenty years later, the rumors are swirling around another Gators' star and there's nothing Harvin can do about it. First there was the reported score of 12 out of 50 on Harvin's Wonderlic test in February, which measures quick thinking and basic problem solving. Then NFLDraftBible.com reported 10 days ago that Harvin and three other players tested positive for marijuana at February's NFL Combine in Indianapolis, though no other outlet has confirmed the report. "He's as talented as anyone in the draft this year," said Gil Brandt, the longtime general manager of Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys and now a draft analyst for NFL.com. "But he has those off-field problems, and that's going to knock him down a little bit."

Yep. Everyone loves the speed and it is good for special teams. Could become another Reggie Bush type player or a wildcat formation guy but probably won't become a star.

but don't you think -even now in retrospect- that Reggie would still be worthy of a 1st round pick?- or a guy say like Devin Hester or L Washington?these type players are vital

Not at #2. No way. For the hype and "once in a lifetime player" tag he had he is a bust. May end up with a nice career but as of now he fills a role on the team but he's not an every down back (although those are becoming rare), he's injury prone, he avgs. a measly 3.9 YPC on a team that is a passing threat, which in theory opens up running lanes.

His greatest asset is he may break a long run or doing something that makes you say, "wow, did you see that"? But those are few and far between. Basically he's following an M. Vick. type of career (leave out the whole dog thing). Flashy, full of promise, occasionally exciting play that makes you think it might happen.

Percy Harvin will not make it out of the first round. He can be a game changer, and there are few of them in any draft. Gil Brandt is the best judge of talent in the history of the NFL. Period. All draft picks are a gamble, this is a gamble with a big upside. You take a chance when you believe in a guys talent or you accept mediocrity....

Granted the kid is good, albeit in open space. He can't take a hit, goes down easily, and gets hurt a lot. On a plus side, he adss another dimension for a defense to stop.

I do hear what you're saying about Bush- but even if his career
continues the way it has, I personally wouldn't call him
a 'bust'.......clearly he wouldn't have lived up to his hype- but bust?
but he is still VERY productive...like having 213 catches in 3 years

Percy was never supposed to go that high though-

Before Percy fell, his status was garnered from the NC game. Now that they found out he's not to bright, plus he's a liability with the drug tests, this will cost him a bunch. I think he'll end up being a return guy for a few years, then go away.

April 12, 2009  10:37 AM ET

I've never seen him play, and I don't think my Cowboys need him, but it would definitely be tempting it he falls all the way down to 51.

bust versus the hype. Bust as a RB. 1500 yds and correction 3.7 ypc. 1st 3 years.

If he continues at his current pace for another 7 years he'll finish with a decent career and those that were not old enough to know better will think he was drafted as a WR. but at the current pace he would have 5000 yd rushing and 5000 receiving after 10 years. Nothing to scream 1st rounder.

Love Brandt. Did a lot of great things for the boys and JJ scroowd him over. Harvin will go mid to late 1st round but it doesn't hurt to come out in what is arguably one of the weakest drafts in years. He has the one word attached to him that makes you both run to him and away from him. Potential.

OK. Two words---the other being marijuana.

This is obviously a non-story. A Gator with character issues? Impossible! According to the announcers from the BCS Championship game, just spending 5-20 minutes with Tim Tebow makes one a better person.

Did you know Tim Tebow can walk on water?

Glad to see the BILLS in the threads. Where are our Bills fans?

FJJ - thanks for keeping these threads interesting.

Are you saying he will be Kim Kartrashian's next slurp toy? Can

April 12, 2009  10:59 AM ET

Sign the big contract and then spark it up. I see why he failed the Wonderlic. The average potted plant can pull down a 14 or 15 on the Wonderlic.

Is that per brain cell.

Harvins problem was he was smoking the wrong kind of Marijane. I saw How High and had he smoked that stuff he could have gone to Harvard. So the wonderlic would have been a snap.

Why is Kim Kardashian famous?

More importantly, why did Bruce Jenner agree to be in that show? He was the World Greatest Athlete. Now he seems more like the Worlds Greatest P****.

Did you ever notice he looks just like Marcy on Married with Children.
