Possible Pistons off-season targets

06:31 AM ET 04.15 | Money shouldn't be an issue for Detroit, not with the salaries of Allen Iverson ($21 million) and Rasheed Wallace ($13.68 million) coming off the books this summer. Detroit also should benefit from a shift in the mind-set of NBA teams, many of which have struggled financially more so than in past years due to the wobbly U.S. economy. We've already seen teams looking to make trades that have nothing to do with improving the product, and everything to do with shedding long-term salaries. New Orleans tried trading Tyson Chandler this year to Oklahoma City as a cost-cutting measure, but Chandler didn't pass the physical and the deal was killed. Look for the Hornets to shop Chandler again this summer. Utah's Paul Millsap will be a restricted free agent and his fellow Jazz teammate Carlos Boozer is expected to opt-out and become a free agent as well. Utah will be hard-pressed to keep both players, along with high-salaried players like ex-Piston Mehmet Okur, Andrei Kirilenko and Deron Williams who collectively will make about $39 million next season. There are many others, including Chicago's Ben Gordon, who will show up on the Pistons' radar this summer as free agent targets.

There arent the names I want to see this off season, but if there is one thing Joe D has proven good at, its finding a blend of mid-level stars that works...

Let Joe work his magic this summer. This is the summer of Joe's job... As a Pistons fan I know better than to over analyze things until I see the team on the court again.

if hes smart he will stay with the jazz... if he goes to detroit his numbers will def. drop he wont have that guy ummm whats his name.... o yeah Deron williams feeding him alot of great passes and helping out with the scoring...

April 15, 2009  08:13 AM ET

not much there to chose from, guess thats why everyone is all ready talking about next years free agents.

April 15, 2009  08:23 AM ET

Rasheed is a headache but are the Pistons going to let him go?

April 15, 2009  08:37 AM ET

Detroit needs to pick up some front court help.... If I was them, I would try and sign Millsap. Gordon doesn't fit Detroit's offense, and Boozer has injury issues. Rip was already pissed about being benched for AI, the last thing they need is him sulking if they pick up another 2 guard. Maybe convince Sheed to return for less money, they can have him take a Rashard Lewis- esque role. He loves those jumpers.

i predict atleast one ejection from Rasheed in this years play-offs.

While I fully understand the need for watching the bottom line, I'm also concerned about teams being content to water down the product. Word to the wise: the Clippers have been under the salary cap for years. Who cares?

Boozer had a chance to play along side Lebron but he chose the big bucks instead. He wouldn't care if he's a Raptor or Laker... for him its all about the M O N E Y...

I definitely don't want to see Boozer in a Pistons uniform. He's gold diggin outta control. I'd take Millsap, Chandler, and I've heard David Lee is going to be on the market; although undersized, he's a beast on the glass and the hustle/emotional player we've missed since B. Wallace.

Artest anyone? I know the context, but this man bleeds passion. He has the right "I don't give damn" attitude. I want to see some bruisers. The Pistons have held on to the Bad Boy attitude, but the it's usually reserved for the coach instead of the other team this year... Artest and Lee would make a great New, New Bad Boy nucleus.

I was trying to be modest, But I done brushed my shoulders off so much, In the past months they looked polished" Cool Kids.

true man that would have been a hell of a combo to deal with in the playoffs lebron boozer and big Z would help boozer in the paint... 2bad boozer was all about the money then... we will see he may stay cuz his value isnt the same with the injury this year

Those are good offseason targets.

Tyson Chandler would be a great fit, sign rasheed for a one year term hoping in 2010 to land a big name for another shot at the title, not a lot of big names in this off season and I don't see Joe dumars making the same mistake twice to let go of value (Chauncey) to pick up another Allen Iverson

I would love Lee in the D. Not sure Artest is the right fit for the offense, but I would love Lee.

I would love to see Bynum as starting PG and have stuckey be a combo 1/2 off the bench.

April 15, 2009  10:57 AM ET

Boozer, Gordon, and Artest would be a very good addition to the Pistons. All these players have the offensive skills that the Pistons need. Artest is the only one w/ both defense and offense. The problem that the Pistons and all other teams will have a problem on is that all players that will be a free agent are all looking to get paid. It will be the player's choice on which team they would play for base on who will give them the best contract. The only exception is the older veteran free agents who have enough money and are willing to sign on to a contending team ala Jason Kidd.

April 15, 2009  10:57 AM ET

Chandler,Gordon,Millsap would be great free agent pickups for almost any team, but whatever team signs Wallace(tech foul magnet), Iverson (The essence of selfishness) and of course Boozer(not even half the player he thinks he is) are complete morons.....

That's true someone is the odd man out in that situation
