06:36 AM ET 04.16 | Duke football coach David Cutcliffe said Wednesday that he had serious discussions recently with former point guard Greg Paulus about the possibility of joining the Blue Devils' football team next season. Cutcliffe told Paulus that if his goal was to play quarterback, he didn't have much of a shot at Duke. The Blue Devils have a fourth-year returning starter in Thaddeus Lewis. Cutcliffe offered to let Paulus come out to Duke's final six practices and see if he could help at slot receiver, but Paulus didn't take him up on the offer. Cutcliffe said Michigan's offense and personnel situation might be more favorable to Paulus' skills if he decides to transfer. In high school, Paulus ran a spread offense that more closely resembles Michigan's than Duke's.

Hmmm...
Green Bay Packers,
Quarterback at Michigan,
Slot receiver at Duke...

Being an academic all American, I bet this decision took all but two seconds.

wow thats a insult paulus might aswell leave the country now... the fact that he cant even be fourth string qb on duke is sad... i could play qb for duke as a walk on lol

Michigans freshman QB's must not be what they were cracked up to be if RR is willing to take this kid for one season. I wouldn't want a new QB every year.

The Lacrosse team is interested. They need a few scorers. However, word is that Notre Dame wants him to be their offensive coordinator.
Maybe he should talk to Penn State. They will let him play middle linebacker if he is willing to add 30 punds and wait 5 years.
Some of the Miami players are offering to let him be the mixmaster in their next rap video.
USC has offered him a free house, but not sure what they want in return. Meanwhile the Patriots are interested in his videographer skills. . . .

So many jokes. None of them funny.

I think Cutcliffe would know what he was talking about with QB's. He coached the Mannings.

Michigan only wants to use this dude to attract future recruits (if you are good enough, you could start IMMEDIATELY! - its publicity) and to light a fire under their current QB's (get your shhh in gear fellas!!). Duke has a fourth year starter who understands the personnel, terminology etc. tbbucsalldaway!!!, if you could walk on and play QB at duke you would have already done so. Paulus would be a fool to take up Rich Rodriguez on his offer... Go to GB and compete for a taxi squad or a 3rd string job and just go for broke...

April 16, 2009  08:35 AM ET

Hmmm...4-year degree from Duke. Masters from Michigan. Too bad this kid won't have anything to fall back on if this football thing doesn't work out for him.

Exactly! He obviously doesn't have what it takes for "the next level". Greg, can you get a DUI, pump out a few kids from a few different chicks and lose all your money?

I still want to know how he can even play college football? Any one thta can fill me in would be appreciated.

No you couldn't.

I love the Blue Devils, and despise the Michigan Wolverines. The fact that this guy is even considering that place in that state north of Ohio sickens me. How could Paulus do this? Words cannot adequately expess my disappointment and rage. HATE HATE HATE!

He doesn't like people to know, but Colt McCoy posts on FN as tbbucsalltheway from NC.

So, I bet he actually could...

Does this have anything to do with a recent trip to Ann Arbor to watch a basketball game?

Kid must have something if everyone is taking a look. Obviously a bright kid with a bright future that may not be in professional sports. Why not look at using up your final year of eligibility to spend time hanging out with coeds before you have to head off the the real world.

If Paulus wants to play QB in College then fine it's his perogative. However, considering he hasn't played the position in 4 years shouldn't he be setting his sights a lot lower then Michigan and the Green Bay Packers? Can't he go to some Division 2 or lower school where he might actually get a shot at the field?

Yeah, I agree. And if the point of going to Michigan is as a tryout for the NFL, why not go to somewhere that showcases a pro-style offense?

I'm ok with him coming to UM under one condition, he does not take snaps away from Denard and Tate in practice. He can have all of Sheridans snaps though... We are not too deep at the QB position, so it cant hurt to have some depth. To be honest, I am a little bit nervous at how well someone Tate's size will hold up against the Big 10...

Tchap, I think he graduated already from Duke. He doesn't have to sit out a year and he still he has one year of eligibility left so he can play for Michigan right away.

Same thing happened to his Urban Meyer's WR from Utah that transferred to Florida and played right away.

Maybe not to you, but I thought that was very funny... It is a good parody about how ridiculous this is getting. I think Syracuse should offer him something (anything in does not really matter what) and then at the last minute rescind the offer.
