Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis confirms he talked with his family about whether they thought he should quit after last season, though he said he never wanted to leave. "Like anyone who has a situation that is uncertain, as any husband and father would do, you address it with your wife and you address it with your kids. And you talk about the what if," Weis said Wednesday after practice. "But does that mean that at any time that I thought that I wasn't going to be here? I mean you just have to deal with ... When you're around a long time in this business, what you learn is you have to deal with the negatives. You just have to have a plan just in case they end up happening."

He probably should have done more than just consider it. I guess that trip to Hawaii and the thought of getting to take the whole team every year appealed to him.

April 16, 2009  06:59 AM ET

Why would Charlie taunt the ND faithful like this....

April 16, 2009  08:07 AM ET

Tell it to Oprah.

April 16, 2009  08:10 AM ET

Is this years team really looking that bad in practice?

April 16, 2009  08:35 AM ET

T&R has gone back to the picture before the oatmeal worked. Or did he eat another kid?

We need a new project for Jabba the Weis. We've done the child eating contest with Fridge and T-Rex Mangino, we've done the terra-forming Mars bit, what's next? There's bound to be something else that someone wiwth this much body mass, methane production, etc. can do. Could he, or any of his "production" (methane gas, excrement, whatever) be weaponized? Might it be effective against Somali pirates, or North Korea, or Osama Bin Laden? Need some new and creative ideas for this thread. Where the **** is GatorB?

April 16, 2009  08:47 AM ET

Wow look's like he is ready for the move, just need's the right incentive package. Come on ND faithful call your priest and let's get another collection plate passed around this Sunday for the CW buyout!

April 16, 2009  08:49 AM ET

coltssb, your thoughts would be as welcome as anyone's. I really am sorry I accused you of attending Texas A&M. That's the kind of over-the-top insult that should almost never be hurled at anyone.

You've just woken up Gariboy. Be prepared for the consequences.

Man, you're really looking for an ND throwdown.

April 16, 2009  08:59 AM ET

Not sure I would have talked about this publicly what with CFB being all about stability and recruiting. Sure he may be a short timer but to state publicly you thought about leaving can't help your conversations with the parents and prospects you hope to bring him. How might this story impact the Tai-Ler Jones decision coming up.

April 16, 2009  09:23 AM ET

Big Charlie dont tease us. We need you to STAY at Notre Dame as long as possible. I enjoy seeing them have losing seasons and disappoint. There is nothing better than a ND fan being upset and having a puzzled look on his face like, "Why are we so bad...were Notre Dame!"

April 16, 2009  09:29 AM ET

Did he discuss it with the family living inside his stomach?

April 16, 2009  09:48 AM ET

The pressure is on Weis to do something good this year. Hope he does.

April 16, 2009  10:10 AM ET

The context of the talk was about what if he was let go, not
that he wanted to leave. He was just preparing his family for
a situation that realistically could of happened. As far as how
they look so far in spring ball, everything I've heard and seen
looks pretty positive. The new position coaches are making
a big impact on the attitude right away. The only ? mark that
has been brought up is the youth & inexperience of the D-line,
but they also say that the D-line is more athletic, quicker, &
has more depth to be a lot more flexible in their packages.
CW said yesterday that the O-line is playing like night & day
compared to last year, I think Verducci is going to make the
most impact on any group this year. They are moving one of
their big running backs to fullback this year which will give
them something they haven't had at ND since CW has been
there, and that is a blocking FB that has the speed to get to
the edge to block, and is a viable option in the running game.
There are a lot of scars that are present as far as CW's
coaching decisions over the past 4 yrs., but things seem to
be heading in the right direction enough to give ND fans a
little bit of optimistic hope for this coming year. I'll know a
little more after saturdays spring game.

Plus as long as Jabba the Weis is around, he'll deflect many of the "fat" jokes away from T-Rex Mangino. Jabba's actually not as fat, but he's a whole lot less likeable. And T-Rex has his team on the rise, while Jabba............

The FanNation sharks never lose the scent of blood in the water do they? What would we do without our daily Charlie Weis update?

In soap operas, no matter how many episodes you miss or how much time elapses between viewings, the plots are the same and the story lines keep getting recycled.

Today's story line: Jabba discusses quitting with his family.
Stay tuned tomorrow for: Jabba talks to his priest.
Next week: Jabba gets on andi-depressants.
and finally: Jabba goes to group therapy (Jabba IS the group).

"Like sands through the hourglass of time, so are the days of our lives."

I noted you slid the term "almost" into that last part.

Needed to reserve the right to go nuclear on somebody in the future with the TAMU weapon, huh?

Pretty nice analysis, not easy to get those off of a Domer. Get back on after the spring game, willya?
