Front-runner for USC QB job is...

Amid the daily hubbub surrounding USC's quarterback competition, Aaron Corp is enjoying a quiet but successful spring. With strong-armed freshman Matt Barkley nipping at his heels, Corp has methodically maintained an edge in the battle to replace Mark Sanchez by making mostly conservative decisions and not throwing an interception. On Thursday, however, coaches unveiled a play sheet designed to force Corp, Barkley and Mitch Mustain into executing longer, tougher throws. "They've got to show stuff," Coach Pete Carroll said. Corp did just that, responding with perhaps his most dynamic passing performance of the spring. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Corp was at his best on rollouts, completing numerous attempts with previously unseen velocity during a scrimmage drill against the first-unit defense.

I was wondering what was happening at USC. They haven't had a QB update in 2 whole days.

just hope the defense holds it together this year... thank God Mays is back

Dey godda show me da stuff, Pete said. What a genius. He is the Ron Zook of the west coast. The never heretofor yet witnessed velocity of Corps passes still pales in comparison to the size of Barkley's babymomma mansion, indicating that Barkley is the favorite headed into fall. Meanwhile, Mustain is considering transferring to Michigan.

Life will ****ing be better in September when we have real games to watch and talk about. But yeah, Pete seems to have reloaded well, at least at QB. News reports have been kinda quiet about the D, which lost 1,000 or so players to the NFL. But I would expect Carroll to have adequate replacements.

Of course, there are a couple of other teams hoping for a successful season in 2009 as well...............

I would be pretty pumped about Corp too. He seems to have all the tools. I am anxious to see how he performs when the lights come on.

Lost in all this hype is the fact that USC will be starting an inexperienced QB this fall. It's one thing to look good in practice wearing one of those "don't touch me" jerseys but it's quite another to lead your team and execute the offense when opposing players are trying to rip your head off. Mustain is the only QB with real college game experience but it looks like he's fallen out of favor.

This will be interesting to watch in the fall. Whoever Carroll selects better be prepared for Ohio State on Sept. 12th. I've got the game circled on my calendar.

Honestly, between the ND threads on Charlie and the SC QB chase...does T&R not realize there are other college teams in the world?

What am I saying, of course they do, they're just lazy...

And by the way, where's Marve going this week?

Better to make the choice and move on than continue sharing practice snaps through August. All of these guys have talent, even Mustain who wouldn't be at SC if he didn't, but it is still better to focus on a leader and end the speculation. QB's are like 13 year old girls, they need attention to build confidence. If any of these guys are still not sure who is number one going into August, they'll be questioning themselves, looking into the mirror and wondering, "am I pretty enough?"

Welcome to Aaron Corp, a publicly traded entity that provides previously unseen velocity. For a prospectus, please contact our Chief Financial Officer, Reggie Bush.

In a seperate, but related story, Mitch Mustain's mother is no longer providing BJ's to Coach Carroll and Mitch has asked for a release to transfer back to Springdale HS.

I'm patiently waiting for a Bob Stoops T&R story.

There's a separate thread on that one. And welcome back. I assume you were too hung over yesterday to play?

You hit the nail on the head.

Corp sounds like he's the guy. That's good. I just can't wait for the season to start to see what the fuss is all about.

I hope Corp wins the job, which seems to be the case.. USC will be fine regardless.

I agree with GB and wonder what coach with will get blown next from Mustains mom.. all that-bitchin she must be hot.. Maybe he should go to Auburn and re-unite with his HS coach.. am sure he misses the BJ'z
