Madden returning to Raiders?

Hall of Fame coach/broadcaster/video game king John Madden announced his retirement today from the television booth, ending a career that was as successful with a mic as it was a Raiders' head coach. So, with his Sundays freed up for the first time in forever, will Madden make a Raiders comeback? Not as a head coach, most certainly not at age 73. Raiders owner Al Davis once said Madden retired far too soon, but that ship has sailed. Rather, Davis dropped Madden's name a few years back when asked who would help run the team when his time had passed. The franchise itself will be passed onto his son Mark and wife Carol. But Davis also said he'd like to see Madden come back and offer some form of help on the football side of things, possibly as a de facto general manager on director of football operations.

Heheheheheh! What a reunion....

Damn Davis is desperate...

April 17, 2009  08:14 AM ET

tomorrow they'll be saying he's going to Washigton
sorry Chico - beat ya to it

Madden has been out of the game too long. It's passed him by, just as it's passed Al Davis by.

Now THAT would be an improvement....

We could use him as a REAL GM.

It may work for the Raiders as well, since it seems Al would be letting Madden have control.

1st order of business - talk Brett Favre & Jerry Rice out of retirement and sign to lucrative free agent deals
2nd order of business - all training camp meals to consist of turducken & brats only
3rd order of business - Boom! Thats a player, right there! Boom!

Like most Americans NEED to now he is still working in his 70's. Man, enjoy the money and retirement you loveable bonehead.

All this cynicism, all these football 'experts' aren't seeing what this Rumor is saying. Al Davis may be stepping down, leaving AJ Smith as the lone king of the 'Stupid Throne'. Also, Madden would have to bring Kenny, the Snake, Stabler to teach the young team how to drink and drive and throw deep. Lester, the Molester, Hays would be a coach too teaching the cheap shot. Friday nights there would be a seance to bring back John Matuzak for inspiration!
Go Raidas !

Dont believe any of it RompinRonnie.........seance for John Matuzak, that would be good reality TV.

I love him. But he would be happy just been involved with football. Unfortunately, he'd have to interact daily with Al Bonehead Davis and that is not what football is supposed to be like. I always knew (sort of) that Davis had a big part in John's decision to retire, more that even flying...

Ronnie you should know the Al's role as loony owner/gm is reserved for JJ. He's been in apprenticeship for 15 years now.

Snake wasn't available so he got Plunkett. Don't forget Casper as TE coach.

John Madden when referring to Troy Aikmen losing his contact lens in a game: "Here's a guy, that when he wears his contacts, he sees better."
