A source familiar with the negotiations on both sides reports that Boston University's Matt Gilroy, a key component of the Terriers' Frozen Four championship squad, has agreed to terms with an NHL Eastern Conference club. According to the source, Gilroy's new club is U.S.-based and is not the Bruins. The club is expected to announce the signing early this evening. ESPN's John Buccigross is reporting that Gilroy will join the New York Rangers on a two-year, $3.5 million deal. Toronto has been believed to be among Gilroy's hottest suitors, along witih at least two of the metro-NY clubs, be it the Islanders, Rangers or Devils.

don`t worry guys, he won`t even be in the nhl next year. i love how this site reports stories about mid-20`s guys that have accomplished nothing as if they`re going to become bonafide blue chip players. guy will play in the ahl, big deal.

If its a one way deal is that possible without going through waivers??

Hahahaha....good one LC!

he's not eligible for playoffs this season, but your right, they wouldn't mess with that lineup at all. the defense has only allowed 1 even strength goal so far this series and they've done a great job keeping the caps to the sides and not giving them much in the middle. rangers have a shot at the cup just like any other team in the playoffs. you gotta be in it to win it.

Why not this year? He can play next game, but they probably wont mess with the lineup.

He cannot play in the playoffs because he was signed after the trade deadline

i wouldn't get too excited anyways. i did when we got mike mottau after he won the hobey baker award and look how that turned out.

Can somebody explain to me how these college players can sign with anybody? Are they not in the NHL entry draft?

"NHL draft eligibility requirements allow teams to claim players 19 and older in the entry draft. Teams retain the draft rights to those players until 30 days after the student-athlete graduates from college."

I copied this from the NCAA. Whether this specifically applies to Gilroy or not, I don't know. If he graduated, I assume this applies. If not, then there must be another reason.
