People in the know say departed Wild general manager Doug Risebrough offered pending free agent Marian Gaborik a 10-year guaranteed contract for $79.35 million before he got injured, but Gaborik wanted $100 million over 10 years. The Wild's offer was subsequently rescinded.

This guy is starting to look like a real douchbag. He might have to sign with the Mild because no-one else would want him.

Sounds to me like the local paper is trying discredit Gabby. "People in the know" is the same as "an un-named source" and has zero credibility.

The Wild should be thankful he passed.

I was thinking the same thing. Whatever contract he gets, should be based on games played. Thats how he injury prone he is.

Agreed. Hence why the Wild should be thankful they dodged that bullet (he did them a favor if this rumor is in fact true), because they must have been smoking fat one when they wrote it up. TO offer him so much...

There's a sucker born every minute and most of them work in the NHL as GM's.....come on, if someone is stupid enough to give Sean Avery 16M over 4 years and once upon a time $9M per season for Bobby Holik, Gabby will get paid and paid well. There's always that GM who desperate enough to over pay and ignore all common sense because they want to keep their job by making the playoffs or whatever ownership sets out as the goal.

2 sure things....somebody will overpay for Gaborik and Gaborik will get hurt again at some point...But 80 million? I doubt he is offered that much again.

Laraque has played ok on that line, he is getting to the front of the net and screening Thomas and it is impossible to get the puck off him when he is behind the net.

As long as you can bounce a puck off his @.$$. He'll showing a lot of heart, but he's like Roberto Duran--hands of stone.

This was a horrible move on Gaborik's part. I think there might be some merit to the idea that Gaborik would be an even better player if he wasn't in such a conservative system which would seem to be a factor in favour of his getting paid top dollar but there are too many factors going in the opposite direction, namely his history of injury problems, the downturn in the economy which has hit the NHL very hard in terms of the salary cap and, I would think, the negative effect that his position has had in terms of the light in which he is cast for GMs around the league. If he is really lucky, he might get a deal similar to Hossa's, one year at a guaranteed high salary but it is more likely that he will have to settle for a somewhat incentive -laden deal.

Gaborik isn't one of the top 10 players in league so why should he get $10mil a year? Especially considering the economic conditions and salary cap.

The question then becomes....do you guys still want Laraque on the 1st line? LOL.

if he stays on the 1st line some day he can make the all star game for bad players

some dummy team will hand him 90 mill prob the ny islanders dont they hand out 15 year deals to players
