07:14 AM ET 07.29 | Training camp isn't just about optimism. Most NFL teams have a lot to prove when they report to training camp, but that's especially true about a Bears team that likely will be dismantled if the playoffs remain out of reach for a fourth consecutive season. General manager Jerry Angelo and coach Lovie Smith already have been given notice: Win or else. But they aren't the only ones with much at stake. For the entire Bears organization -- from ownership to administrators to coaches to players -- the buck stops in 2010.

07:07 AM ET 07.29 | An agreement to acquire Roy Oswalt notwithstanding, Philadelphia is among the clubs scouting Jose Bautista, and Toronto has been scouting Philly closely, too. Phillies superscout Dave Hollins was at the Rogers Centre on Wednesday night, the sixth consecutive game he has seen the Jays play. He was also in Detroit for the weekend series. ... Jim Beattie, now one of the Jays' top pro scouts, was with the Phillies in St. Louis last week and followed them home to watch them play the Colorado Rockies on the weekend. Beattie left and former Chicago Cubs GM Ed Lynch, another Jays scout, took his seat to watch the Phillies-Rockies matchup Monday.

NBA: Introducing the NBA's worst team

07:21 AM ET 07.29 | Things may get worse for the Timberwolves before they get better. If the Nets had won both games against the T-Wolves last season, rather than vice versa, Minnesota would have owned the league's worst record. There's an excellent chance that will happen this season, especially after Minny gave up on supposed franchise player Al Jefferson, giving him to the Jazz for draft picks. That may be a smart long-term move as the 'Wolves try to become a running team. But even after adding Michael Beasley and drafting Wesley Johnson, they may give the 1972-73 Sixers a run for their money as the worst team in NBA history.

09:31 AM ET 07.29 | Recently married Mike Fisher is in no hurry to move from Ottawa. "I definitely love it here. I don't see that happening," the Senators center said in an exclusive interview with the Ottawa Sun -- when asked about any desire of finishing his career as a Predator -- a little more than two weeks after being wed to country singing superstar Carrie Underwood. "When I'm done [with] hockey, she'll still be working. I'm sure she can always work. We'll settle in Nashville. I love it there. ... [That being said], it's a little ways away. I want to obviously play a few years, a bunch of years here yet. She likes it here. I've been here for so long, [s]he would never want her to be the reason I leave here, because I like it so much."

08:18 AM ET 07.29 | Bob Stoops is setting the bar awfully high. Which is why he told the Big 12 media Tuesday the Sooners would like to use running back DeMarco Murray similar to the way they used Adrian Peterson. "I really believe coming into this year, with his experience, his ability to not only run but to catch the ball out of the backfield, we really anticipate him having a big year," Stoops said. "We're hoping similar to a guy like Adrian Peterson, that kind of opportunity to run the ball or have his hands on the ball that number of times." So you mean, like the 339 carries Peterson had in his freshman season, which led the nation and solidified the nickname "All Day"? You mean like the 1,925 yards rushing he had that season? "That's fine with me," Murray said when told of the comment. "Adrian is a good friend of mine and I've talked to him about how do you do this and how do you do that. I do feel if I am healthy, I could have a better year than him."

09:26 AM ET 07.25 | The decision whether to reinstate Antonio Margarito to boxing in the U.S. becomes a much more interesting issue now that Manny Pacquiao has decided to fight him. "There are a number of states who'd license Margarito," the fighters' promoter, Bob Arum, said Saturday, after determining with Pacquiao's management Friday that Margarito would be the alternate foe Nov. 13 to a failed bid to stage the sport's super-fight, Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather Jr.

09:30 AM ET 07.28 | If no one wants the No. 1 ranking, maybe Lee Westwood will take it. We've been doing complicated math -- for journalists all math is complicated -- before every tournament to determine what Phil Mickelson needs to do to wrest the No. 1 ranking from Tiger Woods. And each time, after Mickelson pretends it doesn't really matter to him, Woods maintains the ranking. With both Woods and Mickelson slumping, Westwood is now in the mix for No. 1, according to The Guardian (UK) newspaper.
